I am a huge fan of the ESPN360 the networks broadband offering. Well good news, Comcast now supports this free service and so the vast majority of the region now has access to ESPN360.
If you have a computer and your broadband is supplied by Comcast, Verizon, the military or your college internet connection then you will be good to go for ESPN360. If you get your service from someone other than Comcast or Verizon then check with your broad band ISP to see if they carry the service.
If you have never seen ESPN 360 then you are in for a treat. Your computer screen has one large window and up to five small one that allows to watch up to six events at one time. You can change to full screen the one of most interest full screen if you like. For instance I was watching tennis in the main screen while at the same time the Rays-Yanks, Bayern Munich vs. AC Milan and Manchester United vs. Boca Juniors were being replayed on the small screens. The events are there on demand so if you missed something you can come back and catch it whenever you have the time.
Starting in August you will be able to watch ESPN Monday, Wednesday and Sunday Night Baseball, the Little League World Series, The Summer X Games, the start of the college football season, the U.S. Open tennis, plus lots of quality soccer.
College football weekends are great because I enjoy the ability to choose between as many as six games at one time. I can watch the Miami game while checking out an SEC, BIG TEN, or Big 12 game all without ever turning on the TV.
In the past we have not been able to see a Georgetown basketball game or a Virginia lacrosse game or a Maryland women’s basketball game because it was not offered on an ESPN network that Comcast carried. That is no longer the case with ESPN 360 we have access to all those sports.
Here is the thing ESPN 360 will never replace watching a game on a nice high definition screen but it gives you options. I like that it is portable and so I can take my laptop places that I don’t have cable and still follow the games.
Here is Washington being such an international city ESPN 360 gives fans access to cricket, rugby and other sports that you may not have had access to before.
So my fellow broadband fans check it out.
Comcast is also rolling out this week on their Classic Digital channel the NFL Network just in time for the start of training camps. Also the NFL Network will offer fans almost every preseason game this season and most of them will be in high definition. ESPNU will be making its debut this week as we are only three weeks away from the opening of college football season.
Check your local Comcast listings for the exact channel location.
