Collinsworth replaces Madden on NBC Sunday Night Football

Collinsworth now Al Michaels partner on NBC

NBC has made it official Cris Collinsworth has been named the lead analyst for NBC Sunday Night Football replacing John Madden.

Back in 2005 Madden told me during an interview how much he was impressed with Collinsworth and he had even pushed NBC to use Collinsworth as his play by play partner on Sunday Football if they were unable to get Al Michaels.

So it was a foregone conclusion that when Madden called it quits that Collinsworth would take his place.

Today in a hastily called noon ET conference call for the media Dick Ebersol, Chairman, NBC Sports made the announcement.

"John's successor will be Cris Collinsworth," Ebersol, said during the conference call. "... Cris has always given us the luxury of having the two best broadcasters."

Collinsworth has the “star quality” that NBC needs. No one replaces a Madden but Collinsworth is comfortable in his own skin and will do fine with Al Michaels on NBC Sunday Night Football.

More to come…
