Today marked the first day of a new station for Colorado sports and banter, as 87.7 The Ticket joined the ranks of 1600 ESPN Radio and 104.3 the Fan. The station will take over the 87.7 FM part of the dial, moving ESPN Deportes to 102.3 FM and 105.5 Jack FM staying put. The new station made a splash by luring Vic Lombardi and Gary Miller, known collectively on the radio as the “sports insiders”, away from ESPN Radio. The two CBS 4 anchors give the station an automatic air of credibility, as the stations message is to be completely local.
Tim Spence, Program Director for Front Range Sports Network breaks down the concept. “87.7 The TICKET is ‘Denver guys…talking Denver sports…to Denver Sports fans’ in the best sports city in America.” Stations like 104.3 the Fan and ESPN Radio have mornings covered by national sports, then become local later in the day, but the Ticket aims to have all local shows all day, anchored by the Vic and Gary Show in the morning commute slot.
Also being promised with the new programming is regional and national coverage of College Football games and along with NFL games every Sunday during the regular season.
The station is owned by Front Range Sports Network LLC., and has some prominent financial backers, including ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Dealin Doug. Not a misprint people; Dealin Doug is a huge part of this new station. So tune into the new station, and weigh in on how it compares to the other established sports radio channels.
The station’s lineup looks like this:
5am to 7am “Tony D” (Hosted by Tony Desiere)
7am to 9am “Vic and Gary Show” (Hosted by CBS4’s Vic Lombardi and Gary Miller)
9am to 12pm “Chad and PW” (Hosted by Chad Andrus and Patrick Watkins)
