Skeleton racer Noelle Pikus-Pace of Orem one of two Utahns named to U.S. Olympic team. (Her video is above.) Salt Lake City’s Zach Lund was also selected.
For Pikus-Pace, this is the first Olympic Games and she has an outside medal hope after she missed the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin due to a lower leg fracture. Pikus-Pace rebounded in 2007, winning her first world championship but hasn’t repeated her success in the last two years leading up to Vancouver.
As for Lund, this will be his second Olympic Games, although he was banned during the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin after testing positive for doping. Lund said he was taking a hair-replacement drug which has been known to mask steroid use.
The arbitration court handling the Lund case later said it was “entirely satisfied” that Lund did not cheat, but suspended him for one year. Lund returned in 2007 to win a world championship, but like Pikus-Pace, has yet to win a world title since.
