It wasn't exactly Mike Tyson knocking out Michael Spinks or Marvis Frazier in less than a minute.. But it was close.
And just as impressive.
That's what it was like watching UFC middlweight champion Anderson Silva, moving up to the light-heavyweight division, pound popular Forrest Griffin into submission, flooring him with a powerful right just 3:23 into the first round.
Run, Forrest, Run,'' you might've thought you heard his corner saying. But there was nowhere to run for the big man from Georgia. Or hide, for that matter.
Silva was everywhere.
After pacing himself for just over a minute, he started to take command. From there it was only a matter of time. And not a very long time.
Two minutes into the bout Silva rocked Griffin with a big right that sent him reeling. Moments later he unleashed another bomb that crumpled him to the ground.
Griffin got up, but was clearly in trouble. And moments later it was over, Griffin missing wildly with a combination, then stepping smack into another right.
Like a giant redwood Forrest toppled to the ground, with the ref quickly stepping in to end it.
Griffin immediately left the ring, while Silva leaped atop the cage to celebrate joyously. With the Samba beat ringing as he headed to the dressing room and a number of Brazilian flags waving, Silva stopped to revel with his fans, signing autographs and pictures.
With just one bout left on the night, it was obvious both BJ Penn and Kenny Florian, bidding for the lightweight championship had quite an act to follow.

I've seen all the UFC's 1 thru 101, and have never seen fighter that is as good as Silva. Anderson vs Lyoto??????

lyoto and spider will never fight each other, he make that clear next to dana white said " if the fans wanna it, i wil make it happen. spider said clear and loud is no way i will fight him.
Anderson Vs GSP. Anderson would not destroy GSP.... You honestly think GSP is stupid enough to fight Andersons fight? Yea right.... I honestly think GSP would fight the smarter fight, take him to the ground, and beat him there.
"take silva down", thats what everyone says. it never works. just respect the mans skills. the worst part of his game is ground, however he is a beast on the ground. I say if gsp can beat hendo than he deserves to fight silva. If not he doesnt deserve the shot.
Notice how Hendo did take Silva down.... And he won the round.... Notice how GSP has the best take downs in the UFC, and is excellent on the ground? Put that all together... GSP>Silva
Hey Number One, What about Don Frye? If you have really been watching since UFC 1 like I have... you know that Frye was by far the most dominant mma guy ever. Granted the fighters are way better now, but he won 2 open weight tournys!

Forrest got tooled bad
GSP uses his strength and speed to take people down and GnP. He doesn't have either as an advantage over A. Silva. Its also unlikely they would fight at a catch weight since it's hard for silva to make 185 let alone anything below that. He naturally walks around at about 220. He's too big of a guy for GSP. And his knockout power is insane. He's just like GSP just with better standup and footwork.
oh and don frye is by no means the most dominant MMA fighter. He has less wins, and more losses to poorer skilled opponents than Anderson Silva. Hell matt hughes has a more impressive resume than Don Frye does. And if it's just b/c he won open weight tourny's so did Royce Gracie and he's 1/2 don fryes size. Winning an open weight tournament when you're 220lbs isn't that impressive. Especially when any of the bigger guys you were fighting were hacks.
Zen..couldn't have said it better myself. Everyone will always debate GSP over Silva, but the fact of the matter is Silva is just too big, and too well rounded for GSP to EVER have an advantage. Granted his take downs are flawless.. but Silva thrives off his back. A quick body triangle into a sweep that lands him in the mount and GSP is toast. S**t..a Thai clinch knee barrage wouldn't be too hard to imagine given their height difference. Everyone needs to just take comfort in knowing that when the watch Anderson Silva fight, they are watching something magical. It'll be a long time 'til someone like him grabs our attention again. Yeah, ANderson SIlva is def the best fighter on the planet! I don't see anyone at MW or LH that can give him a good testing challenge, with the exception of his buddy Machida. They have similar styles with both being elusive and countet strikers but I think Silva has the better skills of the two and would take the fight, if it were to happen. GSP is a bad ass but I don't think he could handle the Spider. Hendo, I'm not interested in seeing that fight again at all....I think Hendo should fight the winner of Nate vs. Damien, then if GSP wants SIlva, he should fight the winner of that fight....whoever that winner is should be the next in line for Silva's middle weight belt. Until then keep him fighting at 205, have him fight the winner of Machida vs. Shogun....which if Shogun would happen to win, we def know that is a fight we will see soon. The thing is Silva wants to fight every three months. So,we'll see him in NOv. or Dec. at MW defending his belt...against who though? ..GSP or Hendo?
Anderson and Lyoto!!!!!!!! Wow that would be the biggest money maker that the UFC will have ever seen. I would pay all the money in the world to see that fight. I did hear that Silva has no intensions of fighting the Dragon. But I did hear that "The Axe Murderer" Wanderlei Silva wants some of Anderson, which would be and awesome fight but Anderson would just kill him too!!! Anderson is the best fighter on the planet!
Anderson Silva would get eaten alive by Fedor. I guess it's not a fair fight, given that they are in different weight classes, but still, you are all talking about Silva like he is unbeatable.
