Former Elizabeth standout Michael Eargle will officially sign a letter of intent with the Oklahoma State football program on February 27. It was prematurely reported in local media publications that Eargle had signed with the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The delay in announcing his decision was caused by the fact that Eargle had not officially visited the Oklahoma State campus and wished to sign his national letter of intent with his mother present in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
This information was confirmed by Lackawanna College (Pa.) head football coach Mark Duda on Thursday night. When originally reached for comment last week, Cowboys' defensive coordinator Tim Beckham denied that Eargle had committed to Oklahoma State and it was later found out that Eargle had verbally committed to the university but had not signed his letter of intent. Eargle had made an official visit to the Auburn University campus on the first day of February prior to his decision to commit to Oklahoma State.
The young cornerback earned MVP honors as he led the Lackawanna College football team to the national junior college championship game this past fall. The Lackawanna football program has produced numerous Division I football recruits from it Northeast Pennsylvania campus in Scranton, Pa. The most famous of the former players is former Miami Hurricane and Minnesota Vikings starting left tackle Bryant McKinnie. As many local football fans will remember, Eargle led his 2006 Elizabeth Minutemen squad to the North Jersey Section 2 Group 4 state championship.
