Tiger Woods owes no one any explanations. Period. End of story.

The events that transpired in a rather expensive and tony neighborhood near Orlando has left us with one unavoidable question and one irrefutable answer.

Question: Why should anyone care to know the “real reason” behind Tiger Woods lost battle with a fire hydrant and nearby tree?

Answer: Because those (hopefully) few clogging the blogosphere and screaming for Tiger to allow digging around in his personal closet are exceptionally pathetic people taking up valuable land space, and who have little or no real life at all.

Take for instance the local news anchor, almost giddy following up a taped story about the incident. The standard prop was brought out and used to create even more hilarity on the set. A tabloid newspaper/bird cage carpet hawking the alleged “CHEATING SCANDAL!!!” involving Tiger Woods and a reported NYC mistress/waitress/sexting buddy.

Or the NY newspaper, itself considered something more than a little suspect in how they gather and report their version of the news. A noted columnist, who could be viewed seeking to side with public opinion and ride this wave of hysteria to another book deal, coming to the pointed conclusion that Tiger Woods needs to address this story and tell his adoring public what really went on.

No. He doesn’t.

Tiger Woods doesn’t owe anyone an explanation save the local police department, his family, close friends, and maybe a heart-to-heart with his car for having bounced it around like a pinball on the neighborhood bumpers.

In this case, Tiger Woods doesn’t owe you, his adoring fans, one single syllable of explanation.

Granted, there are instances where he can be put on the putting surface carpet and asked to explain himself.

If he puts a wicked slice into his ball on the 18th hole of the Masters and torches that next green jacket. Should he crank up another infantile tantrum when his driver fails to respond as it should. If he uncharacteristically shoves that easy putt three feet to the left and wipes out any chance your “Fantasy Golf” team crushes those of the golf neophytes at your office.

Then, feel free to intrude on his inner most psyche and seek a slice of wisdom.

Of course, there is no shock at the furor with which the “TIGER SCANDAL” has gripped every form of media from those delivered by satellite to those requiring hand held notes and passed with a string at the end.

We are a nation that demands to know every single little detail about the innermost private lives of everyone and anyone who happens to be famous, infamous, adored, addled, heading up, heading down, or simply having been turned into a so-called celebrity because they managed to procreate before turning themselves and their kids into the latest band of sideshow freaks.

Already those appalled by my indignant attitude are figuratively deafening. How I could dare to even hint that an injury to perhaps the greatest golfer to pick up a stick since Carl Spackler should not have to explain himself? We have a right to know if there’s even a minor possibility that any injury could cost him legendary status!

No. We don’t have any such right.

And the only reason we see and hear so many people wailing and gnashing various teeth over this is for completely selfish and puerile reasons.

There remains even here in what should be an age of some enlightenment, sorry to say, those vacuous individuals who embrace our heroes and celebrities, wallowing in the aftermath of their lives by pretending it makes theirs even better. Who are quick to forgive or overlook certain transgressions as long as they don’t interfere with our need to live a life vicariously via someone else.

Followed closely behind by the group often led by those over the age of 35 who live with their parents and camp out 12 hours prior to the release of every new video game. If there’s sex, cheating, big-breasted women and a wife beating up her wandering hubby with a golf club, break out the chips and turn on the surround sound, dude!

Whatever happened to Tiger Woods is a private matter. If he indeed is canoodling elsewhere, then he’s careless as well as stupid. But it’s still his life off the golf course. He doesn’t “owe” anyone outside of his inner circle any explanation, enlightenments, embellishments or entertainment.

So my advice to those who can’t stop talking about what to this point is strictly a personal matter, and has nothing whatsoever to do with his amazing performance on the golf course, is simple.

Get a life.

Why write an article about it. You are doing your fare share to draw attention to the subject by writing this article. If the law was broken, the public has a right to know, if it wasn't, then we should mind our own business. Maybe some of us want to make sure that if he broke any laws that he isn't shown any favoritism.

    What sanctimonious crap

Ed, the fact that there are two sets of laws does concern people. If the same thing happened to anyone else they would receive alcohol or drug tests. Give me a break!

Herb, this isn't about testing. Of course he should be tested as anyone else would. The point here is he doesn't owe anyone an explanation save for the police (which I noted) and a few others, NOT the fans, the media or general public..
Shannon, writing about it in this manner draws attention not to the seedy elements most people want to know, but why it has no value to anyone save for those with no lives. Trust me, I won't be commenting again on this because it's over.
And Lola, thanks for making my point about the people who deem this important.
    Thanks for playing.

People act like he isn't accountable. Nobody said he would not accept responsibility. He already did. If he broke a law by hitting the tree or hydrant, he will pay financially or however is required. What people really want to know is the story behind why it happened and that is none of their business. I would love to know to, but credit to him for keeping his mouth shut. As much as people are desperate for facts now, it will blow over and he will have handled it perfectly. It's one thing for people to gossip. It's another for him to contribute to it with more information and fodder for criticism.

Mike Vick doesn't owe any explanations either. If he says he didn't kill dogs then leave him alone. If Tiger says no domestic violence happened then leave him alone. Just because domestic violence is illegal doesn't mean that he should have to answer any questions about it. Have you seen the guy putt? The same guy who is telling you to mind your own business, is writing an article about Tiger hoping that you will read it, and mind his business. Hilarious.

We've been sold a certain image of Tiger, that has made him rich beyond any of our dreams, and we deserve to know whether he truthfully represents that image, or not. A little responsibility to his fans and sponsors is not too much to ask for those gigantic checks. Freedom of the press. Look into it.

The fans do not owe Tiger their support or product purchases either. Public sentiment is very real when valuating market value. Nike is already selling an inferior product under Tiger Woods name. You don't think he's responsible to manage his image? You don't think it would be in his best business interests to dispell these rumors that children are hearing? You think Gatorade can keep pumping Tiger Woods cartoons when there are rumors of adultry and domestic violence surrounding his name now? If I'm Tiger Woods, I want to say something as soon as possible. Even if it's a lie.

Come on Ed. Seriously? You can't just pick and chose when to be famous -- you can't be such only when it's convenient. This is the lifestyle he chose. In fact, it's one he embraced. Over 90% of his income comes from sponsorship. He never any deals away... and, as with all public figures, this comes with a price. It's simple. If you don't want to be "abused" by the media or the public, keep your nose clean -- don't cheat, don't go into road rage at 2:30am. I'm so sick of people trying to paint Tiger as the victim here.
