Michael Phelps driving on expired license: get an assistant

Phelps celebrates record breaking time in Rome

Michael Phelps was in a minor traffic fender-bender this past Thursday in his home state of Maryland. Turns out he was hit by a woman who ran a red light and his Cadillac Escalade ended up with a crumpled hood. He also sustained a bruise to his ankle.

Hey, trouble can find you anywhere and we've all had traffic accidents. But Phelps will have to appear in court to answer for a ticket that was issued. He was driving on some old Michigan license that wasn't current.

And when the cops asked the drivers at the scene of the accident the usual question: "Have you had anything to drink tonight", the answer from Phelps, according to an Associated Press report published on foxsports.com, was "yes sir I have."

Reportedly he told a Baltimore cop he had consumed a beer, get this, an hour and fifteen minutes prior to the accident. You gotta love that stop watch precision.

How long has he lived in Maryland and not Michigan? Oh yeah, a while now. But he's been busy, real busy. Like world-wide swimming competition busy. Who has time to "establish residency in Maryland" as he was cited for or get a license in your home state? It's a good sign that he wasn't a bit tipsy if he could rattle off the time elapsed since he drank his beer.

Get a driver Michael. Or better yet, get an executive assistant. All the big time athletes have guys/gals that they pay to do mundane chores for them and remind them of things, like, getting a license renewed, etc.

And keep up the good work in the pool Michael because that's where they only citations you get are the good kind.

Maybe Michael's still grounded enough that he doesn't want an assistant.

Hey what do you expect he's a athelete who lives his life being timed day in and day out, probably the same for track athletes too.

Michael is an overgrown baby who thinks he is above doing such mundane things as following the law. After having one of his world records beat recently, to say his reaction was "unsportsman" like would be too nice. If he wasn't in the news every couple of months for his "college freshman" like behavior, one would likely ignore any one of the incidents as blowing off steam after training hard for the Olympics. Now it is apparent his overinflated ego is controlling him and it is negatively affecting him in and out of the pool.

First of all many people push off changing their license when they move out of state. Second, he wasn't drunk so it isn't even a big deal that he had that one beer. Third he's humble enough not to get an assistant like other athletes.
