The Associated Press initially reported that Tiger Woods was "seriously injured" in a one-car crash outside his home in Florida early Friday morning. He is reported to have turned out of his own driveway and hit a fire hydrant and then a tree with his Cadillac SUV.
He was treated at Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, Florida, not far from Orlando. He was released Friday afternoon.
His agent, Mark Steinberg told USA Today that "he is fine" and characterized the injuries as "minor". There was a specific denial that alcohol played a part in the crash but according to Florida authorities, the accident is still under investigation.
The time of the accident was reported to be 2:30 am EST. Interestingly enough, the police report about the accident wasn't released until 12 hours later.
And the police have told media that when they arrived on the scene, Woods was in and out of consciousness with his wife hovering over him in the street. The SUV's back window had been smashed by Mrs. Woods, according to police, to facilitate her ability to get to her injured husband.
The news about Woods in the last few days has all been speculation and gossip about a report in the National Enquirer regarding an alleged affair between Woods and a New York City woman. Can't imagine it's been an easy time of it at home with Elin and the kids with that floating in the air.
And last weekend, the golfer was booed at halftime during the Cal vs. Stanford game. He was inducted into Stanford's Athletic Hall of Fame and presumably the greeting, so to speak, was from the Cal students and fans.
Woods is scheduled to host the Chevron World Challenge, a charity golf tournament next week in the Los Angeles area. Wonder if like Leno and Letterman there will be a guest host for a potentially still-injured Tiger Woods...
