What's an awards show without a red carpet? Well, it's not a place you'd expect to see big time stars. Not so with the ESPY's. The carpet was red in color, but the ESPY people wanted you to know that they made attempts to keep down the carbon emissions and the number of things that were living which might have been killed to provide the carpet for the stars.
Allheadlinenews.com's reporter Shannon Moore listed the ways the ESPY's made its statement:
"ESPN used solar and wind power to generate energy for the press tent, green room and the DJ tent. The carpet was made from "post-consumer recycled fibers." Wow, that's a mouthful.
Meanwhile those of us in the audience didn't notice any difference in the Nokia Theater itself which presumably was powered in the usual ways. Hey at least they made an attempt.
But on to the red-green carpet. Some surprises were former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice who presented the award for Best Female Athlete and Stevie Wonder who played a tune and presented the award for Best Team. The Iron Sheik decided to attend and former heavyweight champ, Mike Tyson showed up with his wife despite the recent and tragic loss of their little girl in a drowning accident.
But on with the show.
