A-Rod goes Hollywood and hires William Morris agency

You think that Alex Rodriguez has already strayed from the typical business of being a ball player? If you do, then get ready for more.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that Rodriguez has been a busy boy and hired powerhouse agency William Morris to represent him in all matters that aren't baseball contract related.

First thought? He now has people in so many areas of his life that direct or advise him that it's got to take some kind of a toll. Although you would have thought that were true with the need to be dealing with an angry divorce day to day.

But that hasn't bothered him up til now and his hitting and fielding for the Yankees is on an even keel. He's even added two new lawyers to Team Rodriguez to make sure his considerable fortune remains intact except for what is necessary to settle with wife Cynthia.

And now this. It has to marginalize his baseball agent, the once untouchable Scott Boras. Their disagreement from last Fall made public after  A Rod's decision to opt out of his Yankee contract was leaked to the press to conicide with the Red Sox triumph in the World Series, reportedly soured the superstar on the tactics of Boras. There are a lot of baseball GM's that feel the same way.

As it becomes more common that sports stars take on a large all purpose agency for matters off the field of play, A Rod is the biggest catch in his sport the way LeBron or Kobe are in theirs. This means more than endorsements; it will mean entertainment projects and media as well as tie-ins with corporate America that can be charitable in nature.

Has Madonna helped with this as well.? The NY Daily News quotes personal friends of Rodriguez as saying that.

If Kaballah and a divorce have settled him into a more consistent ball player and a more comfortable person, then who is to say that this isn't the way for him to consider a post-baseball career? Brett Favre wouldn't be torturing the Green Bay Packers if someone had helped him do this years ago. Just a thought.
