Longhorn fans have good reason to be angry

So the Oklahoma Sooners moved ahead of Texas in the BCS rankings.

It earns the Sooners a trip to the Big 12 Championship game, where they face an overmatched Missouri team that will be lucky to stay on the field with OU.

The Sooners will stay ahead of Texas, then face the Alabama-Florida winner in the national championship game.

OU has a great team. They may very well beat Florida in the alleged national championship game. They have had a great season.

But the Texas Longhorns should be Big 12 South reps. They should get the chance to murder Missouri (again). They should play for the national title.

By any standard, however, the Longhorns got hosed. UT's only loss was a last-play setback at Texas Tech. Tech's loss was a massacre at Norman.

OU's loss was on a neutral site to Texas.

The Longhorns were the better team that day, plain and simple. Better on defense. Better on offense. Better on special teams. As much as OU fans don't want to hear this, Texas would be a better team if they played again, too. Better coached. Better at the little things. Like, oh, defense.

If we are to argue that OU deserves another chance, then doesn't Texas deserve that chance more? (Tech fans will argue they did as well, but their non-conference schedule and narrow win at home over Texas aren't enough to put them over Texas or OU.

OU has had a great season, and played some tough non-conference foes, too -- at home. Texas had the tougher Big 12 schedule. So that's a wash.

The margin of victory against common opponents is close enough to where that is essentially a wash as well.

So shouldn't the one important issue -- who beat who heads up -- actually count here?

Media hacks with agendas have decided OU is better, even though the issue  was settled where it was supposed to be -- on the field.

This is in no way to suggest Oklahoma doesn't deserve all the accolades they get. But they don't deserve to get in at the Longhorns expense.

The BCS and its ridiculous formula has always been a complete farce. It is a joke concocted by fat cats lining their pockets. The morons who defend it say "every week is a playoff" in college football.

Really? Then what about that Saturday in October? If that was a playoff, why is OU still alive?

Sadly, we'll never get a playoff, and because of it, college football's champion will never be a true champion. We are stuck with a stupid formula to determine a bogus championship. OU may very well be this year's fake title holder.

And that's a shame, because Texas deserved the chance to be this year's phony champ.

Texas only beat OU because Ryan Reynolds got injured, and got 3 scores off his absence. OU has since recovered, and the frosh and sophs playing now have game time. OU would beat Texas in a rematch. The computers aren't biased, they include the tough non-conference wins, where OU won. Computers are better than biased sportswriters, who have an axe to grind.

I think Texas deserves to be in based on head to head. The problem is not with the BCS but the Big 12 tie breaking rules. Please refer to the SEC tie breaker for the same instance - except Texas would be in the title game.

I guess that is where your article lost me when you start pointing fingers instead of looking more closer to home. How about checking with your Big 12 Commissioner/AD's/Presidents before pointing fingers at a process better than we have had before.. no not perfect but better.

Hey Richard -- Tech only beat us because Brian Orakpo and Quan Cosby got hurt. Otherwise, we would've beaten Tech. See how silly that sounds? Am I making that same excuse? Don't give me that garbage. Your team has a great offense but no defense. Texas would beat you again. They are the best team in the Big 12 and should be allowed to prove themselves against the country.

Who beats who does count. Texas Tech beat Texas 39-33.

    Sanket Kumar:
What you fail to mention is that Orapko was injured in your season opener, and Cosby was injured before the Tech game. Reynolds was the heart and brains of the defense, and Texas scored on his position when he went down, in the Texas game. Texas had time to replace their injured, OU didn't, which is why they would beat Texas now. It is also apparent that all the OU freshmen and sophomores have vastly improved with the additional playing time, which is why OU is HOT.

The question is not who was the better team October 11, but who is the best team NOW, and who can best represent the Big 12. I do understand what Texas says, and feel for you, but that argument gets back to Texas Tech beat Texas, so that argument doesn't wash, about head to head games, in this particular case. Texas Tech blew that argument for you. The computers looked at who beat which ranked team, and had the toughest schedule. I am less and less in favor of biased and prejudiced humans making bad decisions.

To KNS who wrote "Too bad, Texas. What goes around, comes around."

Cal didn't beat UT that year. Had they beat UT on the field, then you'd have a point.

Key wins - Slight edge OU
Losses - Edge Texas. Last second play, in the last game of a very tough stretch.
Head to Head - Edge Texas 45-35

    Nuff said.

Fred Faour might be THE worst writer associated with THE worst paper I have ever thrown away. Hey Fred, I live in your neighborhood and I still think OU should have a shot at the title. Quit crying and suck it up; there is always next year. Ha Ha

ou won in a three way tie. Tech beat Texas "head to head" but all we have to hear about is poor Texas. Every coach voted on the tie breaker including mack brown.

Sorry, I don't agree. OU will represent the south because they won the fifth tie breaker. That is the rule. If Texass had not lost at Tech, they would be in KC. So Quit whinning and get over it!!!
