After a productive season, the University of Calgary Dinos fell two points short of capturing the Canadian University Football grand prize.
The Dinos lost 33-31 to the University of Queen's Saturday afternoon in Quebec City.
In many ways, one could say the Dinos lost the Vanier Cup, rather than the Gaels winning it.
The Dinos committed five key turnovers, including a blocked field goal and a Richard Snyder fumble late in the game.
The Calgary football club also blew an 18 point lead of 25-7 at the half.
Queen's grasped the momentum early in the third quarter when Vanier Cup MVP Danny Brannagan threw deep to Devan Sheahan for a 60 yard touchdown pass to give the Gaels life. Brannagan ended the game with 3 touchdown passes and 286 yards passing.
In a bet among premiers, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty won a case of Spolumbo sausages from Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach.
It was the fourth time in club history that the Gaels won the Vanier Cup, as they also became victorious in 1968, 1978 and 1992.
