Lee-Huntsville (9-3) head coach Greg Brown has been at the helm since 2002 and has done nothing but win in his tenure with the Generals. It was the lessons he learned as a player under famed head coach Jerry Dugan that has driven his desire to be a top coach in the high school ranks. Brown led the Generals to the state final four in 2003 and has had his team in regional play on a yearly basis.
This year’s program is no different, as they look to make a return trip to Birmingham and the Alabama High School Athletic Association final four. But to do it this year, he has a new slew of players that must acquire a chemistry that most teams need to make that run.
“We have several new guys, so we need to gain experience and work on our chemistry as a team,” Brown said of his team. “We must play with great intensity and effort on the defensive end of the floor.”
That is just what the No. 3-ranked, Class 5A, Generals did in the Huntsville Times Classic December 28, as they handed the Decatur Red Raiders a 63-55 loss. Seniors Josh Langford and Lebron King combined for 33 points in the win. Langford, along with fellow teammate and cousin, Devin Langford, are both D-1 college prospects for the Generals. Both are being sought after by Alabama, Auburn and Georgia; while Josh is also being looked at by UNLV and Chattanooga.
Josh Langford finished the game against Decatur (10-3) with a double-double scoring 15 points and pulling down 11 rebounds, while dishing out one assist and taking away one steal. King had a game-high 18 points, two steals and a rebound, Allen Pride added 10 points, and two each in steals and rebounds, Dominic Bass contributed with seven points and two boards, C. J. Robertson chipped in with six points, Devonta Jackson with five points and Trey Rogers added two points.
Decatur was led by William Johnson who tied for the game-high with 18 points, three rebounds and a steal. Raheem England added 12 points and five rebounds, Patrick Hereford and Darius Nelson each contributed with six points, Torrick Spangler finished with five points, Josh Freeman and Jay Laughlin each had two points and Carter Lyle chipped in with three points.
