28 year-old Hollywood resident Bernard Edelen and 26 year-old Laguna Beach native David Foes randomly met through an impromptu MarioKart tournament at a Chuck E Cheese in Costa Mesa. While bonding over bad beer and ignoring their families they realized they were destined for great things. The next day, still in a drunken stupor, they began the process to apply for citizenship to Lichtenstein.
As scary as it is, if the duo is granted citizenship they will have a shot at competing for an Olympic medal in 2012 as Lichtenstein's population of 35,000 is roughly the same as most top-tiered American universities but with significantly less athletic prowess.
No experience does not deter them. Edelen and Foes firmly believe they can win the slot to compete for a gold for Lichtenstein in beach volleyball based on the assumption that they will have no competition.
They are slated to begin their training in Newport Beach on January 1, 2010, just as soon as they have recovered from binge drinking while watching the Rose Bowl.
Here's to qualifying rounds.
