During the first stage at Rally De Portugal, Sebastien Loeb nearly took out a rouge motorcyclist through a narrow pass. Everyone always wonders why USA doesn't have more rallycross events, this is one reason; they are dangerous. Rally isn't like Nascar or NHRA where everything is "safe". No, rally takes place in the real world, on real roads, through real cities and villages scattered throughout the world. Rally is dangerous, and that's the spectacle we all love.
Some courses are actually on the side of mountains, and the drivers are required to navigate a 12 foot wide path at speeds in excess of 100 mph, all while staring hundreds of feet down the side of the cliff. Rally is about the driver and navigator being able to set aside their fear and complete the course in the fastest time possible. Some people say rally drivers are on the verge of insanity because of how dangerous rally racing can be. This near miss between a legend like Loeb and some dude on a dirt bike goes to show you that even in the most prepared and sanctioned form of rally, shift happens.

The following shifty mistake was totally made by the biker, and the governing authority of the event. Event holders should have proper safety personnel in place to prevent a biker like this from getting on the track. Chances are, this guy was just doing his normal commute and just happened to encounter a live $100,000+ USD rally car flying his direction at speeds beyond reality. This is one lucky dude, but still a guy who is totally clueless to the local events of his area.

The headline doesn't make sense. It says "nearly misses". I was expecting to see the guy get hit. "Barely" misses maybe, but not "nearly". Nearly means almost........he didn't almost miss, he missed him.
You never know what it around you without checking. Glad everyone was safe.
