2010 MLB preview: Texas Rangers

Look here new ownership is on the horizon, but the command structure will remain in tact. The Rangers will be looking to build on a 2009 winning record. 2009 was the first time since 2004, and just the second time since 1999 that the club finished a season with a winning record. However trouble looms this team was in first place as late as July 10th last season, but wound up 10 games behind American League West Champion LA Angels. The club 's success lies with their starting rotation, since they had a down year offensively last season.

Texas Rangerssale finally finalized

 

Tom Hicks has reached a final agreement to sell the Texas Rangers to Team President Nolan Ryan, and Pittsburgh attorney Chuck Greenberg. In a separate transaction Hicks sold of a good deal of land surrounding the Rangers ballpark, and will retain a minority stake in the team. There are still a few complications to iron out like approval of Major League Baseball, and Hick’s creditors. There also may be a question about Ryan’s ownership of several minor league clubs who are considered part of the Houston Astor’s farm system.

Texas Rangers trade for Ray, sign Harden

While teams like the Detroit Tigers are spending the annual Winter Meetings to moving around salary and making blockbuster Trades, the Texas Rangers, a team with their own financial problems, as gone about tweaking their own the field product somewhat under the radar. On Wednesday The Rangers traded their ace, pitcher Kevin Millwood to the Baltimore Orioles for reliever Chris Ray. They are now using the money they saved from Millwood’s contract to extend an offer to pitcher Rich Harden. Both moves are upgrades for the Rangers, who were on the verge of making the playoffs in 2009.

2009 MLB season in review: Texas Rangers

Through much of the 2009 season in seemed that the Texas Rangers were going to not only make the playoffs, but make some noise in the post season there as well. They got off to a hot start, but typically wilted in the Hot Texas Sun of late summer. Much like the Detroit Tigers this is a team that played well enough to win their division, but they collapsed in the last quarter of the season. It seemed in August that this team was good enough to run down the Boston Red Sox for the American League Wild Card, but a late season loss to the Tampa Bay Rays killed the post season aspirations of this ball club

Creditors reviewing bids for Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers are for sale. They are for sale because the Hicks Sports group, a company which also owns the Dallas Stars of the NHL, defaulted on more than 10 million dollars in interest payments to its creditors. To satisfy the creditors the group well sell off the Rangers, who are being kept afloat with assistance from Major League Baseball.  Now the creditors, which number almost 40 in al, are reviewing a few bids to see if the sale of the Rangers can satisfy the debts of Hicks Sports Group.

Hicks looking to sell the Texas Rangers

Texas Rangers owner Tom Hicks and Major League Baseball are looking to sell the Texas Rangers to a new ownership group. Hicks, who may go down in history as one of the worst baseball owners ever, has gotten into a little hot water by missing a 10 million dollar debt payment to his creditors last March. These 40 some creditors won about 525 million dollars of debt from Hick’s sport management company which not only owns the Rangers but the Dallas Stars of the NHL.
