2010 MLB preview: Cleveland Indians

Why does it seem that the Cleveland Indians are constantly rebuilding? Maybe because in a very real way they are. It seems, they have a small market mentality to running their club, but this is a team just a few seasons removed for ma tough loss in the ALCS to the Boston Red Sox. In 2009 they lost 97 games and ended up in a last place tie with the Kansas City Royals. They have a new manger, this year, and in 2011 they will have a new General Manager. Hopefully they will right the ship.

Cleveland Indians hire Manny Acta as Manager

Three months after being fired as manager of the Washington Nationals, Manny Acta is back. The Cleveland Indians announced today that Acta will become their manager starting in 2010. While financial terms of the deal were not announced the deal is for three years. The Indians front office chose to ignore Acta’s terrible record as manager of the Washington Nationals, believing that bad record was due to a poor roster. One then has to wonder just how much better the Indians roster will be?

2009 MLB season in review: Cleveland Indians

For whatever reason the Cleveland Indians cannot seem to get it right. Over the last few years they have had a lot of talent and yet win/loss success seems to elude them. Even when they do win, they got to the post season and exit early. They play in the worst division in baseball and yet they cannot get it done. Over the last two years they have traded away a lot of their weapons looking to get a bunch of prospects in return, they are trying to change up their mix. In the mean time, their on the field product got their manager and coaching staff fired.

Cleveland Indians fire Coaching Staff

The Cleveland Indians have announced today that Manger Eric Wedge, and his staff will not be back with the team in 2010. This brings to an end the Wedge era of the Indians that has lasted since 2002. In that time the Indians have had just two winning seasons, and just three non losing seasons. Even with all the talent this team has had in those years, they have always felt one or two pieces away from putting together a strong playoff run.
