  Chicago Cubs Stories

2010 Chicago Cubs payroll

The Chicago Cubs have the third largest payroll in major league baseball this year, and for the money they have spent the results they have produced are clearly not in line. The Cubs so far are 15-20 and are five games behind in their division.

Mariners continue to add pieces, trade for Bradley

The Seattle Mariners seem to be involved in every big deal of this off season. They have added a ton of talent to a team that won 85 games in 2009. On top of trading for Cliff Lee, signing Chone Figgins, they have now traded for Chicago Cubs OF Milton Bradley.

2009 MLB season review: Chicago Cubs

The 2009 season of the Chicago Cubs ended up being a pretty disappointing. Many thought that this team had World Series talent on the roster, and on some days they played like a team ready to make a deep October run. On other days they looked terrible, and on some days they looked pretty terrible. In the end they did finish with a winning record, but were never able to build a big lead in the National League Central. A big reason for that is how poorly this team played on the road. For the year they went 37-44 on the road.

Cubs suspend Bradley for remainder of 2009 season

To say Milton Bradley’s fist season with the Chicago Cubs hasn’t exactly gone to plan, would be a vast understatement. The Cubs added the switch hitter because they needed another left handed bat. However with the Cubs Bradley is only hitting .231 from the left side, and .257 overall. That is a stark decline from the .321 he hit last year with the Texas Rangers. While that was bad enough last Thursday Bradley was pulled from a game with knee inflammation, after the game Bradley didn’t want to talk about it, and had a nasty exchange with the media.

Yet another twist in the sale of Cubs

Another potential complication to the Ricketts family final purchase of the Chicago Cubs has arisen. According to IRN News the Chicago Tribune Company, who bought the Cubs in 1981 for 21 million dollars, may have to take the team into bankruptcy to clear the Tribune company of any future debts related to its ownership of the team.

Chicago Cubs sale, not exactly completed

The exclusive negotiating period between the Chicago Tribune company and the Ricketts family expired last week. While the two sides continue to try and reach a deal the Tribune company is free to back out of the deal and solicit new offers for the Chicago Cubs.
