Atlanta Braves mid season review

So today we move our mid season review to the National League East. We start with the Atlanta Braves who sit in first place, with a 45-33 record, 1.5 games ahead of the New York Mets. Even though this team once won 14 straight division titles it seems a little odd to be talking about them as a first place club. The simple fact here is they have been playing some outstanding baseball. I firmly believe that there motivation is to send Manger Bobby Cox into retirement having managed yet another division winning team. If they keep this up that is exactly what they will have done.

2009 MLB season in review: Atlanta Braves

While the Atlanta Braves missed the National League wild card by six full games that is not a real indication of how good of a season they had. It seems no matter who they have on the roster this team just knows how to win. Granted they were a better road team than a home one, but who can argue with results. It seems in the end the Braves were on big bat away from making a serious run at a playoff spot and regardless of who is in their starting five, their starters can go out there and get it done.

Bobby Cox hints at retirement

Long time Atlanta Braves Manger Bobby Cox may retire at the end of the 2009 season. Cox has been the manager of the Braves for 19 years and he led them to the 1995 World Series title. Of course that would be a greater accomplishment had Cox had more success in the playoffs. His Atlanta Braves teams won 14 straight division titles from 1991 to 2005. In that stretch that played in four World Series only being able to win one of them. While clearly Cox is a great manager, it may be time for a change.
