KidSpirit Magazine, the only unaffiliated spiritual magazine by and for 11- to 15-year-olds, has just received a gold award from Mom's Choice Awards®.
Mom's Choice chose KidSpirit as a top entry in the category of magazines, one of only two magazines chosen for an award.
This is the first award for KidSpirit since making its transition to an online format, and the magazine adds the honor to its NAPPA Gold Award, which it received in its first year of print publication.
KidSpirit Online is a unique non-profit magazine and community for adolescents. For the last several years, young writers and artists have been sharing their ideas in KidSpirit Magazine, an ad-free quarterly that explores spirituality, values and life's big questions in an inclusive atmosphere.
Charleston moms - and dads - will want to introduce the magazine and website to their children, as recent studies have shown spirituality to be key to children's happiness and vital to adolescent development.
KidSpirit Online has long been recognized by youth leaders and educators - especially those in the fields of spiritual and ethical development - as a unique and invaluable resource for teens.
The Interfaith Center of New York has remarked that KidSpirit "creates a space in the public square for young people to explore their spirituality... KidSpirit will facilitate the development of a new generation of citizens who are clearer about their own beliefs, yet respectful guardians of a pluralism that is quintessentially American."
KidSpirit Magazine, publishes articles created and edited by teens, and provides a safe social networking site where youth can talk about the life questions that matter to them most.
Past quarterly topics chosen by the youth-led editorial board range from Rituals & Traditions, The Body in Balance, Science and Spirit and Myth and Meaning. KidSpirit also encourages intergenerational dialogue by inviting guest experts to write about each theme. Distinguished adult writers and thinkers who have contributed to the magazine include Eboo Patel, Gary Zukav, Lama Surya Das, Matthew Fox and Peter Benson.
The Mom's Choice Awards® is an awards program that recognizes authors, inventors, companies, parents and others for their efforts in creating quality family-friendly media, products and services. An esteemed panel of judges includes education, media and other experts such as Dr. Twila C. Liggett, ten-time Emmy winner, professor and founder of PBS's Reading Rainbow and Julie Aigner-Clark, creator of Baby Einstein and The Safe Side Project.
