"Thoughts become things…choose the good ones” -Mike Dooley
The big buzz around spiritual circles these days is Manifestation. We have The Secret and the zillion media products showing us ways to manifest millions with the mind and manner. Everyone’s talking about how to get everything we want, and then when we have all these things, do we have what we really need? What is it that will satisfy the innermost longing –for happiness?
The truth is we create our own reality at each moment of each day. Our thoughts broadcast a wave that circles back with the experiences we have, the friends we connect with, the emotions we indulge in. Astonishing new scientific discoveries about the biochemical effects of the brain's functioning show that all the cells of our bodies are affected by our thoughts, proving what many traditions have passed down for thousands of years. Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D., a renowned cell biologist, describes the precise molecular pathways through which this occurs in his new wonderfully accessible and understandable book, The Biology of Belief.
Bringing our thinking to consciousness is the key to creating the life we want and are meant to magnetize, what we deserve and that which our soul calls for. Spiritual living at its best flows from a continuous inner alignment, with keen awareness of choice in what we create.
Shakti Gawain elegantly graces our way into understanding with her book Creative Visualization, recently re-released by Nataraj Publishing, a division of New World Library. She states that “developing a sense of prosperity… having the understanding or consciously taking the point of view, that the universe is abundant, that life is ‘trying’ to bring us what our hearts and souls truly desire – spiritually, mentally, emotionally, as well as physically. Almost everything you ‘truly’ need or want is here for the asking; you only need to ‘believe’ it is so, desire it, and be wiling to ‘accept’ it.” Most of us have multiple layers over our acceptance of the life we may not feel we deserve. Under the onion peels of finely tuned, gracefully performed facades of personality convincing even ourselves that we are happy, is the simple truth of being, patiently awaiting our own hug.
Sometimes life circumstances remove all ground beneath us, casting us into the void where we are forced into relationship with our innermost self: natural disasters, economic earthquakes, getting seriously ill while traveling alone in a country where you don’t speak the language (my experience 2 weeks ago in
In sales I refer this it as becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable. Each cold call is a stepping into the void, the place of pure manifestation. Relaxing into the discovery creates a magnetism that works on many levels, greater sales volume, enhanced health, richer happiness overall. It all starts with being at home inside one’s own vehicle, the body. Relaxing into the very core of being and saying ‘yes’ to whatever is there, allowing all to be as it is without judgment aligns us with the natural flow that permeates all life.
In his book, Going to Pieces without Falling Apart, Mark Epstein, M.D. addresses the common fear of this emptiness that I call the void, weaving the accumulated wisdom of Buddhism and Western psychotherapy showing how “the happiness that we seek depends on our ability to balance the ego’s need to do with our inherent capacity to be.” He shows how we can gain capacity to “bear the unknowability of the self.” Once familiar with the turf through meditation and other conscious practices we can more easily weave the awareness into our daily life, then perhaps we will need fewer disasters to wake us up.

As an Ambassador of Hugs, this deeply resonates with me.
