Laurie Sue Brockway
Rev. Laurie Sue Brockway loves to inspire people. In fact, as Inspiration Editor of Beliefnet.com, it is her job to do just that. She feels that offering inspiration and hope to people, especially in the darkest of times, can be an antidote to the fear and emotional overwhelm that grips us when we face difficulty. “We can’t solve people’s problems for them,” says Brockway. “But we can give them a lift, cheer them on, and constantly offer a more positive view of life.”
Beliefnet is an award winning multi-faith and inspiration website with the mission to empower people on their spiritual paths. Readers will find an impressive and well-organized array of options to feel better about themselves and the world – including social networking, daily newsletters, articles, blogs, videos, jokes, quizzes and photo galleries.
She points out that the Inspiration channel is for all readers regardless of their beliefs. “On my channel, we serve inspiration straight up, which means it is for everyone -- people who are not religious, spiritual folks, and persons of faith.” Brockway truly believes people can begin to alleviate stress and suffering by counteracting it with content that feeds the soul. “For example, inspirational quotes can go a long way to uplift people,” she says. “I call them chocolate for the soul. Inspiring quotations are just one simple, easy, free way to reignite a sense of hope.”
“My secret hope is that we can get folks addicted to daily doses of inspiration rather than some of the other things people tend to reach for when feeling low,” she admits.
Brockway, who is also an ordained minister trained to serve people of all faiths, says being an inspiration editor is a dream job. She has always specialized in one of the happiest and most inspiring areas of ministry – marrying people in love. Prior to being ordained, she was a journalist for 20 years. Her colorful media career included editor-in-chief of two national magazines, managing editor of a local newspaper and running a newspaper syndication service. She specialized in covering women, relationships, health and spirituality. She sees Beliefnet as a synthesis of her work in media and ministry.
“What an honor it is to spend my days trying to think of ways to make people smile and feel more hopeful about life.”
