Breaking news: James Ray arrested on Death Lodge charges

James BBQ Ray has finally been arrested! Charges appear to be for manslaughter. No other arrests have been made, meaning James Ray’s cover up minions (Greg Hartle, Megan and Josh Fredrickson, Michelle Goulet, etc) probably flipped faster than Olympic gymnasts. In case you somehow missed James Ray's lame attempts at proving his innocence, here's a list of his top 9 defenses.

Bail is set at a cool 5 million but James BBQ Ray is already whining he can’t pay. I personally think he will kick his own bucket before voluntarily setting foot in prison. Hopefully he’s put on suicide watch before he has a chance to carve a shiv out of his toothbrush or something and slit his own wrists. Word on the street is that James Ray’s arrest will be all over the news tonight.
Stay tuned, I’ll post again when I hear more. What do you think? Will James Ray make bail? Now that everyone knows the truth will he be suicidal? If James Ray is locked up will more reports of wrong-doings flow in because people feel safer? Who will be the next news station to get coverage? I want to know what y’all think in the comments below.

Way to contribute Mel, you're a real asset to society... Anyway, great news! I don't think James would last long in jail, so that means bail or you know... More people should speak out now and my sister will be on 48 Hours soon.

Was glad to hear he got arrested. I honestly think that once all of this finally sinks in to his thick skull, that he will find no other option then to end it all. I am sure they are aware of this and are going to put him on suicide watch. His ego won't be able to take him having to finally own up to what he has done.

I can only assume the authorities read that article in the New York magazine and saw how insulting it was and couldn't allow him to have his freedom any longer.

I wonder how many of his followers are going to hold candlelight vigils around the country over the next few days, "intending" for his release. It's gonna be a battle royal between his fans power to intend and those metals bars holding him from freedom and back into their awaiting embrace.

They should aim the prison camera directly on those bars to see who wins.

There IS a God. This is an amazing day. I have no words. Am completely incredulous, but probably not half as incredulous as "the one who believed he was so handsome and silver-tongued that he earned the right to use the rest of us as his stool pigeons."

I haven't read about an indictment for Colleen's death. We can only hope that's on the horizon. I do hope you're right, Cassandra, and that Ray's crew will reveal the truth about everything. This is a great day for justice!

WOAH! Did you guys see that mug shot!? Um, can you say Guilty!!!! OMG, I wonder what's going through his head right now.... oh yeah, probably the fact that he created this for himself so that he can grow into a better person. Good luck with that one James. Oh, and James, since you basically have absolutely nothing to show for the last 30 years of your life now, um how about LEARNING YOUR LESSON THIS TIME!!!!

Sin is it's own punnishment James, and it seems to me that you were dealing with two of the deadliest of sins: Pride and Greed. Did you really think you were going to get away with this #&*$ for a lifetime? Did you really think there wasn't an objective reality, a Real God that would eventually open up a serious can of woopass and give you a taste of what you've been running away from: Reality!!!! You quote the bible often James. Why would you quote such a book if you're not going to take any of it's advice? This is a serious lesson in Reaping what You Sew!!!! You are not God James!!!! Get that? Maybe this Spanking will wake you up a bit!

I have been waiting for this day. I thought I'd be cheering, smiling, jeering at the sight of him being taken in handcuffed, just like any other criminal. Instead I had tears, and was filled with sadness. This was a horrible crime, committed against innocent victims. The greed of one man, in an industry that is at it's heart, all about HELPING, HEALING. So very sad, for so many.

The SD police didn't even interview Ray or his staff about Colleen's death and have no intention at this time of reopening the case.
I am glad to see, however that even Colleen's family feel relieved at his arrest and are taking it as a clear sign that justice is coming to the one responsible for Colleen's death.

Anyone can drop the SD police a quick email asking them to reopen the case

I wonder where all of James' money has gone. According to published reports last year, JRI earned $10 million. With very low overhead (payroll and some office space in Carlsbad), where is the rest of the money?

I know his staff was not well paid. I have heard them complain about their low salaries and long hours.

I know he paid $1 million to create in infomercial for his Harmonic Wealth hom study course that came out and bombed.

I know he had all of his events audio recorded, even some had camera crews, but that could not have been very expensive.

He got $60,000 from each World Wealth Society Member in annual dues and $75,000 from couples joining together. You can go to the website worldwealthsociety.org for more information on that. At one point, there were over 60 members. And when members didn't want to renew their membership, he made them pay a "cancellation fee."

With regard to Colleen, I am doubtful that they will ever be able to make a case. HOWEVER, having James Ray locked up for the deaths of others is the next-best thing.

After being blown off and ignored for more than six months, this has got to be gratifying to Colleen's family.

Thanks @Yakura. After posting last night I realized Mel meant that Ray's arrest provides some relief for Colleen's family. Didn't mean to negate, Mel. Yes, we need to ask the San Diego police to keep looking for answers. Again,Cassandra, thanks for pointing out that Ray's crew has probably turned against him. Hope they reveal what he/they did to Colleen. I was cheering when I saw the video of him entering the jail. BRAVO YCSO!! Now let's watch Sheila Polk's office hang him out to dry!

What did everyone else think about his lawyer's statement after the arrest? He's just now taking responsibility for his actions (now that he's been arrested), but that doesn't make it a crime (AZ interviewed hundreds of people, JR interviewed a select 20). He also said that James immediately reached out to the families (does immediately=10 days later???). He also said they were cooperating with the authorities every step of the way (3+ months after the tragedy James gave them the "whitepapers"). Sounds like we can't let up on this guy until he's behind bars.

I was touched by the comments (below) from the person who had tears. It is a very sad day -- the victims and family are in my prayers. James Ray needed to be charged. His arrogance and carelessness was stunning.

What is even more stunning to me, that sound I hear coming from all his co-guru's on the Secret. Yes, that eerie sound that I recognize from stepping out of my car at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Deafening silence. None of them (and I have checked) have had the guts to say anything. Not a condemnation, or a support statement.

So where are you now, Jack Canfield? Bill Harris? Marci? Whare are you now?

    @Bryan

I thought those comments were typical, and show the caliber of character of the attorneys. They are just burning through what is left of JRI money.

I believe the District Attorney built a very good case, and took a cautious route to this day. So the JRI attorneys are just trying to poison the jury pool at this point.

I feel so sad for your loss. I didn't know any of the victims, but I keep them and your families in my prayers. I read James Ray's books and called in to several of his conference calls, so I feel a connection. And I am relieved he has been arrested. At least, he is facing some consequences -- even if it can't bring anyone back.

What will sink this horrible sub-species of human is the prosecution's countering of every single LIE. There is a tremendous amount of information online that proves Ray has always been a fake; he never believed any of the stuff he promoted. These contradictions will hang him. Hopefully, the judge will refuse to reduce Ray's bail.

Thanks for the advice Hippo, I will check that out. I put so much time and energy into implementing his ideas (especially those in his book Harmonic Wealth) into my life, and now I am dealing with so much disgust and anger and confusion that I feel like I'm going through a mini depression. I spend most of my time online trying to find more information on the case..... it's currently a serious problem.

@Lucky - Knowing that my 80 year-old Grandma (Mother of Liz Neuman) survived this, helps me through this and gives me strength. 3 manslaughter charges are not meant to be taken lightly. Unfortunately it seems that James is still blinded by greed and power.

    This is to Lucky:

I have been exactly in the place you are describing.

Please consider the idea that "harmonic wealth" is BS, that the "law of attraction" may not work, and that karma may not be real either.

There is a saying in Latin which means "Correlation does not equal causation." So, in other words, if you get in a car accident, this doesn't mean it was caused by your negative thoughts, your previous mis-deeds, or the mis-deeds of your parents.

Obviously you have to come to your own conclusions about what you believe. However, the "correlation-causation" theory is put forth by the Skeptic community, which is the antithesis of Ray and people like him.

I used to think poorly of the Skeptic community, but I am starting to think that they may more sense than anyone.

Please consider doing some reading and coming to your own conclusions.

I would discourage you from signing up with any more guru-types.

    Good luck.

@ Hippo - I think in some way you are onto something, it's important to investigate alternative viewpoints, to attempt to understand them before rejecting or believing; skeptics and "believers" alike.

However, one thing that people tend to miss: In ALL cases, The Secret and James Ray's teachings are mere interpretations of karma.

Yes, it's important to investigate for ourselves the possibility that Karma doesn't exist. However before you suggest karma doesn't exist, don't confuse The Secret or James Ray's interpretations of karma with other interpretations or teachings about it. His are mere interpretations - possibly highly biased.

So it's only fair to ask you to also consider the law of karma does exist, only that it works differently to what you know about it.
