Writing Excuses - A podcast series

Writing Excuses is a podcast series by writers, for writers. It's in its third season, and continues to offer fifteen-minute episodes, each addressing a particular topic or issue writers face, whether about blending genres, creating tension, or making horror actually horrifying. Oh, and it's all free.

The team that puts these episodes together is composed of:

Dan Wells - Horror novelist, whose debut novel, I Am Not a Serial Killer, is available through Tor Books.

Brandon Sanderson - Fantasy novelist, currently finishing the late Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, while also working on his own epic fantasy series.

Howard Taylor - The writer of the online comic, Schlock Mercenary, which is his full-time job and has garnered him a Hugo nomination, and acclaim from Analog magazine, to name a few.

There's a lot of good humor punctuating the high caliber advice presented in these podcasts. The contributors use a lot of professional examples to get their points across, and they come across with a conversational style that is easy to listen to. The nice thing is, as writers themselves, they know the tight schedules other writers tend to work on. And why would they want to distract other people from their works in progress for too long? That's just mean. So each episode is a tight fifteen minutes. Plus you can download the audio files to listen to at your convenience.

Even better, if you prefer reading over listening, transcripts are available for the broadcasts of both Season 1 and 2.

New episodes are posted at least once a week, with some time given for breaks between seasons, of course. So if you're looking for professional advice in your writing craft, what better place to get it than straight from the mouths of those who are making a living from it?
