The Gathering Storm release gathers steam

With October 27th fast approaching, Tor is beginning to unleash all of their last-minute publicity efforts to get word out about The Gathering Storm. And it's not surprising to see such fanfare and excitement. For millions of readers out there, this is a huge event that they've been waiting a long time to see.

In case you haven't been following the news over the past couple of years, here's a summary:

Robert Jordan (real name: James Rigney) died in 2006 after writing 12 books of the epic Wheel of Time series. After his death, fantasy authorBrandon Sanderson was picked to write the ending books of the series based on Jordan's notes. These final three books are:The Gathering StormTowers of Midnight, and A Memory of Light

Here are just a few ways you can get involved with all the excitement and events surrounding this release:

1. Check out the tour dates and locations for Brandon Sanderson, as he travels the country promoting the new book. If you can make it to one of these, buy a book and get it signed! For those in the Denver area (my hometown) here's a quick note that Sanderson will be stopping by on Nov. 1st at the 16th St. Tattered Cover. I'll not only be there, but was also picked to be on the Storm Leader team which will be helping to facilitate the event. Say hello if you make it!

2. If you are in the Denver area this weekend, Oct. 23-25th, you can attend the MileHiCon, a spec-fic convention which Brandon will be attending as a speaker and panel leader. Here's his schedulethroughout the weekend.

3. You can watch a number of video interviews that include Brandon Sanderson, Harriet McDougal (Jordan's widow and editor), and others from the Tor team.

4. There's the option to sign up for next year's JordanCon, a convention "dedicated to exploring Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series and his rich, literary legacy, as well other genre authors."

5. Follow Tor contests and giveaways on torbooks Twitter. Prizes include "I Killed Asmodean" bumper stickers. Yes, it's an inside joke. Read the books. You'll laugh, I'm sure.

6. And, of course, you can keep an eye out here on Examiner.com for updates on MileHiCon, the Nov. 1st signing, and an eventual review of The Gathering Storm

Here is the official plot summary of The Gathering Storm:

In this epic novel, Robert Jordan’s international bestselling series begins its dramatic conclusion. Rand al’Thor, the Dragon Reborn, struggles to unite a fractured network of kingdoms and alliances in preparation for the Last Battle. As he attempts to halt the Seanchan encroachment northward---wishing he could form at least a temporary truce with the invaders---his allies watch in terror the shadow that seems to be growing within the heart of the Dragon Reborn himself.

Egwene al’Vere, the Amyrlin Seat of the rebel Aes Sedai, is a captive of the White Tower and subject to the whims of their tyrannical leader. As days tick toward the Seanchan attack she knows is imminent, Egwene works to hold together the disparate factions of Aes Sedai while providing leadership in the face of increasing uncertainty and despair. Her fight will prove the mettle of the Aes Sedai, and her conflict will decide the future of the White Tower---and possibly the world itself.

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.
