Carrie Underwood, the beautiful and sweet-natured young woman from Checotah, Oklahoma, stole our hearts when she won American Idol in 2005. Since then, it's been a musical love affair as Carrie's newfound fans catapulted her into mega success with awards such as Top New Female Vocalist of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, and even the most coveted spot in country music, Entertainer of the Year.
And now, it seems, Carrie has stolen someone else's heart as well. The NHL's Ottawa Senators' forward, Mike Fisher, proposed to Carrie Underwood in December of 2009 after a year-long courtship.
The couple exchanged vows this past weekend, on July 10th. Though the wedding details were kept top-secret to secure their privacy, we now know that the ceremony took place in a luxury resort in Atlanta, Georgia. The event was attended by fellow country music stars such as Tim McGraw and Faith Hill along with the American Idol judges who, of course, helped set Carrie on her path to fame.
It seems hard to believe now, that just six years ago, Carrie Underwood was living in the obscurity of a small town, just a young lady with her sights set on broadcast journalism. And yet one decision and a long car ride to St. Louis to audition for American Idol changed her life forever.
She has enjoyed a fairytale-like success, and now, with a wedding ring on her finger and the love of her life on her arm, it seems she has found a fairytale love as well.
The St. Louis Special Occasions Examiner extends congratulations and best wishes for a wonderful life together!
