Social-Other-School (SOS) Rescue Series are a series of pamphlets that are a great first step for parents looking for the answer to the question, “Now what?” Many parents are often at that first step place. They either just received a diagnosis or currently suspecting a problem. The problem may have been brought to their attention by a teacher or pediatrician or their own observations. But the first question that comes to mind for many of these parents is, “Now what?”
SOS Rescue Series, designed and written by Danette M. Schott, come in a 3 Stage series. The first stage is Identify. The second stage is Analyze. The third stage is Refine. Guides are available for ADHD, Anxiety, Asperger’s syndrome, Autism, Play Skills, and Social Skills. The booklets are chock full of resources, given in a manner such that facilitates the parent’s learning and provides a balanced perspective within each community, not playing favorites with ideologies. The parent is given resources in all areas, including alternative approaches, and allowed to make up his or her own mind as to which approaches to try or to not.
The booklets’ resources are arranged in a step-by-step manner with convenient check boxes so parents can proceed at his or her own pace and know where he or she left off. The types of resources covered include informational articles, videos (for visual learners), books, medication information, scientific research, support groups and more. The series are like someone did the ultimate Google search on each subject and only returned the best of the best related links.
There is a companion website, SOS-Research, where a parent can order the series, find out more information, or get parent coaching. The products are reasonably priced and well worth every penny! One 3 booklet series costs $34.00 USD, or $12 USD for each booklet. There is a blog as well as a support center for one-on-one help from parenting coach, Stephanie A. Scott, M.Ed.
