The autism awareness music project or SingSOS! has just released their new “Songs of the Spectrum” CD just in time for the holidays.

According to great head up from an article in the New York Times, the album features original songs about autism, featuring performances by artists like Jackson Browne, Dar Williams, Marshall Crenshaw and other top names.

The CD includes a shelf worth of autism resources, including excerpts from books by leaders in the field, all in electronic form.

All proceeds got to non-profits working directly with the autism  community.

SingSOS! have also set up an innovative distribution model; inviting nonprofits that are serving the autism community to register and then giving the individual donors the choice of who and where their money should go.

Their goal is to express what’s so hard to convey in words alone: the experience of a family facing this baffling disorder, its unexpected joys as well as heartbreaks.  They hope people choose to make the album a gift of understanding during this holiday season.

What a great idea!
