A missing dog is always a scary time but when that dog has a special needs condition it can really spell disaster. Not only does a missing dog have to worry about dangers like cars and wild animals, missing medication or increased stress level could cause serious harm to their health. When minutes count, finding your dog is crucial. You can take simple precautions today that can save your dog tomorrow and yes; there is even an app for that.
1. Always make sure that your dog is in a secure location. If he spends time outside, double check the fence to ensure that there are no gaps.
2. Always make sure that your dog wears up-to-date nametags, rabies tags and if applicable, medical alert tags. This way if he gets picked up, his rescuers will have all the important information they need.
3. You can also download the Dog Finder Mobile app on your smart phone. This free application, also at www.dog-finder.org helps you geo tag and share information throughout social networks about lost dogs. With today’s technology it can help you get the word out when time is everything. Search Dog Finder in your App store.
4. Don’t forget to notify your vet that your dog is missing. Sometimes they may get the “found” before you if the rescuer calls the number from the rabies tag first.
5. If your dog has a microchip, always make sure that the information is correct. This way if his collar comes of, he still has identification.
