Liberals are like monkeys says DC Republican Examiner

In a column recently offering his treatise that liberals do not love America, DC Republican Examiner used an unfortunate racial code word: monkey. He said that liberals behave like “scalded monkeys” when accused by their opponents of lacking patriotism. While I am willing to accept that he is merely ignorant rather than racist, I can’t simply make that assumption just on good faith.

So I did a little research for him and found this compelling and thorough essay about the term “monkey” and its history as a pejorative directed at African-Americans. In it the author Jackie Jones quotes David Pilgrim, a sociology professor and chief diversity officer at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan and curator of the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia, “…there are derivations, like porch monkey, and we have tons of images of African-American children being portrayed as if they were monkeys. It’s part of a continuum from the past, and I ask myself how could any adult American not know this?”

Now you make look at me and wonder why I take offense since I’m not African American and all liberals are not African American. Well to certain people anyone who opposes racial discrimination is disloyal to their white heritage and race, so blacks and liberals are equally deserving of their hate. In the spirit of fairness I can only assume that the DC Republican Examiner only allowed his hyperbole get out of hand, nothing more insidious than that.

I can speak with some authority on the subject as I received my first reprimand as an officer for the Transportation Security Administration for objecting to the openly discriminatory workplace culture at TSA. Later I was verbally warned by a supervisor for not randomly selecting enough black passengers for additional screening. It was his opinion that I was biased due to my history of speaking out and he informed me that I was considered disloyal by management

I’m an American and proud of it. I’m a Southerner and proud of it. But I know our history and I’m proud that leaders such as A. Philip Randolph took a stand for the true spirit of America. I’m proud I can write openly about the racist killer William Zantzinger. I will speak out and ask the DC Republican Examiner to find a more artful description of his perception of liberal’s reaction. Feel free to contact me; I’m always willing to help.

Actually, he used the term "scorched monkey." Which is a variation on your usage above. The actual phrase is: "Scalded Ape." An ape already races about when irritated and a scalded one would be especially irritated. I believe it is you who made the racial jump.

Does your spell-check work? Plural of monkey?

Thanks for the comment. Even with spellcheck things are missed from time to time. But I checked dictionary.com and the plural of monkey is monkeys.

The Scorched Monkey Effect (n): When a Republican cites a liberal op-ed calling other liberals unpatriotic, and a liberal columnist, in a hissy-fit of political correctness, calls the Republican a racist.

Last time I checked, Obama has not made you Word Czar, so you don't get to nonsensically redefine normal English words like scorched and monkey. Also, you dilute (and, in fact, misuse) the word racist when you apply it to somebody describing an emotional reaction by a major political party.

Columns like this one are good to keep around though - sort of like specimens in a zoo - so that 100 years from now people can be reminded how silly liberal political correctness really was.

(Psst - I said "specimens in a zoo." I am sure that is some sort of code word too, maybe you can get another post out of it.)

As a liberal, I'd just like to point out that I don't react like a "scalded monkey" when a Republican tells me that I hate America. I find that a nice right cross to the face works much better.
