BREAKING STORY: A brave parent of a 13 year old autistic boy from Floyd Middle School in Cobb County, Georgia has come forward. This child was thrown into a concrete isolation room after being handcuffed, hog tied, abused, injured in a horrific manner. His neck is badly bruised and injured, he suffered an embolism in an area that's unspeakable. He has lash marks across him. The Isolation room has a narrow window, locking door, padded walls urine stains, no ventilation, and is made of concrete and the pads are thin. The alleged culprits are the school staff. Ironically, this incident happened the day before Rep George Miller, the head of the Congressional committee which to planned to present national bill HR2747, prohibiting restraints on disabled children.
Advocate Michael Robinson, who is aiding the parents in this matter is outraged. Mr Robinson said, "I rally behind the efforts of Senator Miller and his proposed legislation although I believe it's a shell that will need to be amended with some strong and heavy additions. I believe we now have their attention, now it's time to force the leader of our nation into speaking, or forever be silent. He must take a stance! There has to be a point of breaking in which we must say ENOUGH and this must stop. That time has come and past, brave parents have stepped up and led rallies and had state and federal legislators take note and actually write legislation. The mother of all that legislation must give birth to something new, something so stringent that this will never take place again without serious consequences. I have the pictures. They are alarming and the fact CPS, the DA, nor the police will investigate. The F.B.I. has been notified and has responded. We shall seek justice and will shall be heard."

Oh Robin, this is absolutely horrific! Coming on the heels of the search for an autistic boy in Canada, this highlights the huge contrast between different approaches to dealing with special needs kids. In the case of James Delorey a whole community pulled together to help find him, and a continent was devastated when he passed away due to hypothermia.
The treatment you are describing here is simply barbaric. There is no educational merit to treating a child this way, and no school should ever allow it to go on. My heart goes out to this boy, and I give thanks for the efforts my son's school staff take to keep him safe every day.
''They are alarming and the fact CPS, the DA, nor the police will investigate.''
WHAT!!?? Alarming, but I don't doubt it a bit. WHY?? I would SUE everyone of them. What is it that has CPS, DA, police etc on the schools side in blatant violence??
Now, a school can call CPS on a parent for LYING about abuse, and CPS jumps right on it. I am SO SICK of PUBLIC SCHOOLS!!
Wow! thats really terrible. Anybody who puts their hands on children are pathetic. I think that they do it b/c they have misery in their life and they want to make evrybody else around them miserable also. I think that anyone who does that should be brutally punished!
What I have never understood is why is their not justice? If one citizen hits another assault charges are filed? There needs to be justice for these children with special needs and disabilities. As a mother, reading this story as well as the other of abuse, just sickens me and makes my heart break. The government needs to take action and protect all of our children.
Where is the media? Why hasn't anyone else picked up this story I am trying to search for other online news outlets that would have picked up this story. I am outraged this has happened. The media should be all over this story
My autistic son has never been injured by staff, but he has been handcuff-restrained several times. My heart always simply breaks when I get the call, and when I walk into the office or room. The excuse is always that they felt he was "a danger to himself or others".
Stories like this truly bother me. I check in on my son unannounced several times a week to make sure what is really going on at school. I want to know what is going on. even though I love his aid and his teacher this stories truly freak me out.
Why do parents turn their children over to these prisons other-wise-known-as schools? Research unschooling and take responsibility for your child's life and education- Stop trusting Government institutions to do it for you!
That school should be ashamed of themselves. They are going against all of the techniques that are effective in discipling an autistic child. Did the ever hear of positive reinforcement strategies?? Maybe those teachers at that school should get the same treatment that that poor boy had. I say sue the school!!!
I say sue the school!!!!!
People in Nations like USA ,in 21st Century are still in human, cruel ,I used to think India is under developing country here such acts used to be common.
Our Public Act should be so strong that no one dare to be so cruel.
This is barbaric. There may need to be restraint techniques used when a child with autism is falling apart. However, this is a clear case that the staff is not well enough trained to handle the special needs of this child. Had a parent done the very same thing, they'd be sitting in jail awaiting trial - then likely convicted. The public schools simply fail our children time and again, and have no accountability. More and more it is not about truly educating or caring for children but running for numbers that say "Our school is most improved!" And they really don't care about a child who has special needs.
I find this absolutely vile, it is completely out of order that anybody let alone a vunerable child should be treated in this manner. What with the autistic boy being charged as well, seriously what is going on in the world?!!!! These children need positive reinforcement, understanding and above all people who care about them enough to want to help them not abuse them. This should never be allowed to happen, its 2010 not 1800's. This should be in the media-highlighting the ignorance of those who should not be allowed anywhere near children, let alone those who cannot stand up for themselves and report what is happening to them or fight back. I am glad my son is in a caring, and encouraging environment.
This is something that makes me mad, i have a severly autistic son who at times gets aggressive but if this happen to him i would personally go over there and kick some ass. If the police wont investigate then maybe they will allow me to kick the person who put the child in this room ass and maybe they will turn the other cheek as well .
Got something to say?
