Parents of special needs middle and high school students have a new option for academic instruction in Los Angeles, Fusion Academy.
Fusion Academy is a fully accredited 6th through 12th grade school, offering a unique method of one-to-one instruction so that a student’s program is personalized to meet his or her unique profile of learning strengths, interests, and needs.
Fusion’s philosophy is to embrace individuality through a personalized educational program for each child. Instead of requiring students to adapt to traditional methods, Fusion adapts to each student’s unique needs, custom-tailoring academic programs that propel students to success. Their approach is founded in the belief that every student can learn and has the right to educational opportunities that promote learning.
The Fusion team includes teachers with diverse skills, all of whom have a bachelor’s or master’s degree, counselors and educational therapists. The staff act as mentors, teachers, advocates, confidantes and friends to their students.
Group study areas and group activities provide opportunities for social interaction among students of all grade levels and staff.
Academic instruction is supplemented with arts and music instruction and a special therapeutic program that supports each student’s unique social, emotional, and psychological needs and addresses obstacles to learning.
Course options are provided at three levels of difficulty:
Basic, which meets the minimum graduation requirements for the state of California; and
Standard, and Honors—each of these levels is approved by the University of California system and meets the UC’s ‘a-g’ requirements.
In addition, Fusion has flexible, year-round scheduling options to accommodate students’ needs. Students can progress at their own speed, and accomplish courses in less than the standard time needed in traditional settings.
Another aspect of the program is the Homework Café. Students complete homework each day in the Café under faculty supervision, giving them opportunity to receive help when needed.
Fusion also provides a Learning Center in which students from K through 12th can receive tutoring in all academic subjects, take classes for credit, prepare for the SAT and ACT and receive study skills training.
Fusion’s approach may be the answer for students who have experienced repeated failure in regular educational settings, whether public or private or for students whose schedules are impacted by needs such as illness, or therapeutic appointments.
Fusion Academy is hosting an open house on July 15, 2010.
Fusion Academy and Learning Center is located at
