The Climate-Gate scandal, which has grown from the revelations of data suppression and downright fraud in e-mails hacked from the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit, has spread to NASA. According to the Washington Times, Chris Horner of the Competitive Enterprise Institute is preparing to sue NASA for climate change data under the Freedom of Information Act.
Chris Horner, a noted climate change skeptic, suspects that the same kind of data suppression and fraud that took place at the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit may be taking place at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS). So far NASA has not been responsive to Chris Horner’s request for raw data behind the GISS estimate of the Earth's temperature. A NASA spokesman claims that Horner’s request is being worked on, but provided no explanation as to the delay.
The GISS estimate of which years are the warmest have been kind of a moving target. At first GISS had suggested that 1998 was the warmest year of the past century. Then, under pressure by climate change skeptics, it revised its estimate to suggest that 1934 was the warmest year. Now once again 1998 is considered the warmest year, followed by 2006 and then 1934.
The Director of GISS is Dr. Jim Hansen, a controversial climate change advocate who has been called the “Godfather of Global Warming.” Hansen has been dismissive of the climate-gate revelations, claiming that the science behind global warming or climate change is still “settled.” Chris Horner has accused Hansen of “doctoring” climate change data on at least two occasions in order to try to “prove” an impending global warming catastrophe. Hansen has also been criticized for political activism, including participation in civil disobedience protests, possibly in violation of the Hatch Act.
Jim Hanson has denounced efforts to alleviate carbon emissions through a cap and trade system and instead advocates a draconian carbon tax.

Thise article doesn't mention that the delay in responding to the freedom of information act request has been for nearly three years. How long does it take to work on getting the information.

They need to "clean" the raw data first to hide their previous tampering and try to perpetuate the hoax as long as po$$ible.

Question:
Why can't we have and open and honest debate on climate change, on TV like
the presidential candidates did? The climate change issue is far more
important. Ask the average person on the street, even politicians; What
percentage of the atmosphere is CO2 ? Most will respond with answers ranging from
"I don't know" to 20 to 30%.
Al Gore's movie has played on the ignorance of most people. If the green
house gases in the atmosphere have risen by 25 to 30% as is claimed (from
0.025% up to 0.030%of total atmosphere) and the atmosphere is heating as a
result, how much has the ocean risen so far? We don't need to be talking of
the gloom and doom of the future when considering the warming data being
published. The catastrophe of global warming is well underway. Having said
that begs the question: Where are the parts of New York City that are
already under water due to rising seas? Al Gores movie showed what they
will be in our future, where does the catastrophe stand
Conspiracey theory? I think when it is proven that data has been tampered with by university scientists we are beyond theory, the idea that we can control this planets climate has always seemed ridiculous to me. Maybe we should start installing scrubbers on volcanoes, that would have more of an effect than by forcing industry to move to China. Oh yeah and instead of burning coal we just sell it to China so they can burn it, we are peeing in the wind here and I hope it is finally brought to light.
To me science is all about producing results which can be reproduced. These graphs showing global warming can't be reproduced because the 'scientists' won't reveal their data or their methods. This is another conspiracy just like the weapons of mass destruction that Saddam was supposed to of had. Until they reveal their data and methods i refuse to be had.
Well it's now November 2010, and as far as I can tell Chris Horner never sued anyone. I suppose you get better media coverage as long as you are "poised" to sue, and telling anyone who will listen all about it.
It's a bit more risky if you take people to court and have your allegations tested. But you'd only do that if you were sure truth was on your side. And the Competetive Enterprise Institute is certainly not an organization interested in objective truth. Exxon doesn't pay people for that.
