Phil Plait's Bad Astronomy site is a fascinating resource for the general public-- anyone, for example, who might be interested to know that when you hear an ad about a "star registry," you're being sold a star that's already named.
In addition to the site, Plait has also authored two books. He takes on those who believe that the Moon landing was a hoax, a critique of astrology, and several scientific movie reviews.
Plait's writing is interesting and accessable, and while the site hasn't been updated in a while, it's worth a look. He might tick off a few people (okay, a lot of people) but Bad Astronomy is a refreshing take on space science in popular culture.
