A spa service to toast to: The Ritz-Carlton Spa's Le Vin Wine Therapy

Ritz-Carlton Healing Waters area
The Healing Waters area at The Ritz-Carlton Spa

Las Vegas is home to some of the world’s most luxurious spas, so for a spa to stand out from the competition, it must truly be unique.

The Ritz-Carlton Spa at Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas, ranked the No. 7 spa in the United States by Condé Nast Traveler in 2006, is worthy of such a distinction. The Mobil Four Star, 30,000-square-foot spa can be found just steps away from the hotel’s main entrance in a building unto itself and features 24 beautiful treatment rooms, a full-service salon, fitness center and private men and women’s Healing Waters areas, complete with whirlpools, cool plunge pools, saunas and steam rooms. As gorgeous as the facility is, though, it’s the spa’s menu of services that truly stands out, with such unique treatments as Massage Mentoring for couples, Skin and Make-up Mentoring for adults and for teens, Drift to Sleep (a specialized journey that’s designed to help guests let go by taking them through a ritual that will promote sleep at a deep state of sub-consciousness) and Lunar Rhythms (three unique body work experiences inspired by lunar effect that occur on the shore of the spa’s private lagoon, pictured below) available to help guests unwind and feel their best.

If you’re a little skeptical to sign up for such extravagant services during your first visit, though, why not try something almost as unique but equally as enjoyable? The spa’s Le Vin Wine Therapy treatment (50 minutes, $145) is one of the spa’s Journey of Renewal services and takes place in one of its two Vichy shower treatment rooms. The service begins as you lay face-down on the treatment table (which conveniently has a cut-out for where your head should be, so your face isn’t smashed flat against the table during the service) and the masseuse rubs a Chardonnay sugar scrub over the back of your legs, your feet and back. Part of Olavie’s Chardonnay Wine Therapy skin care line, the antioxidant all-natural sugar scrub isn’t very abrasive (or sticky), and is blended with shea butter and six natural oils to exfoliate, nourish and protect your skin in one fell swoop. While red wine may be better to drink for the heart, Olavie’s Chardonnay-based products are the perfect pairing for your skin, as the Chardonnay grape seeds are removed from the grape juice prior to fermentation, leaving almost all antioxidants intact for extraction. The sugar scrub is also perfect for both men and women, as it has a nice scent to it that’s not too girly for guys or too manly for girls.

Once the back half of your body has been scrubbed down with the Chardonnay sugar scrub, the masseuse will turn on the Vichy showerheads and slowly move them over your body to help rinse the scrub away. You’ll lie under the showerheads for a few minutes before they’re turned off and you’re asked to flip over onto your back so that the front half of your body (including stomach, if so desired) can be exfoliated as well. The Vichy shower process then repeats itself while you lay face-up on the treatment table, a towel wrapped around your face so that the water doesn’t hit it. If at any point during the cleansing process the water gets too hot or too cold, the masseuse will always be nearby to adjust the temperature, so don’t be afraid to speak up during the treatment.

Ritz-Carlton Spa Lake Las Vegas lagoonAfter the showerheads are turned off for the second time, the masseuse will gently massage some of Olavie’s Chardonnay Wine Therapy Antioxidant Body Butter into your legs and arms before asking you to sit up on the treatment table so she (or he) can get to your back and neck. The emollient-rich formulation will help heal even the driest of skin, so it’s perfect for these dry summer months in Las Vegas. Depending on how tight your muscles are, the masseuse may even put a little extra elbow work into trying to get rid of some of the knots in your back and neck, so don’t expect just a light rub-down when the body butter is being applied. Once your treatment is complete, you’ll leave the treatment table with skin as smooth and soft as a baby's bottom--a drastic difference from how your skin felt when you first entered the spa! Even those with naturally soft and smooth skin will notice a considerable difference, so don’t stay clear of this rejuvenating treatment no matter how nice your skin may be--it’s definitely worth it!

Since you won’t want to wash off the body butter after your treatment (especially since it smells so good!), be sure to arrive at the spa at least an hour before your scheduled appointment to enjoy the relaxing Healing Waters area. The spa opens daily at 8 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m., and locals receive a 20% discount on all spa services seven days a week. The Ritz-Carlton Spa is also currently offering a Mini Retreat Package, where locals can enjoy two spa treatments--the Renew Massage, Refresh Facial, Rejuvenate Scrub or Refine Foot Treatment--for just $100 (offer can’t be combined with 20% locals’ spa discount).
