Now that he's popped the question, it's time for BridePOP

Are you one of the 10% of all brides who got engaged on Valentine's Day? If so, you're probably already haunting the magazine racks buying up gorgeously glossy pubs like Brides. But increasingly, bridal buzz bubbles up via social media where Facebook, Twitter, youtube and the blogosphere provide ideas, inspiration and guidance to everyone from the bride-to-be to her 3rd cousin twice removed.

One of the newest entries in the Weddings R Us world is the just-launched portal for all things bridal, BridePOP. What I like about the forward-thinking BridePOP is its community-driven mantra:  For Brides By Brides.  The site's founders -- social media pro Ryan and wedding expert Michael --back up this smart philosophy with such an eclectic array of  blogs that every bride will be able to find more than a couple that speak to her.  I'm partial to the unbride, with its 'unconventional and unforgettable' theme probably because I got married 'conventional' the first time, except for my blush pink wedding gown which scandalized several great aunts and gave the vapors to my new mother-in-law. I also love The Wedding Chicks even though they torture me with pictures of droolworthy shoes, fleurs and evil cakes. And then there's Rock n Roll Bride with its mission of "providing a little haven of kick ass weddingness in the overly poofy, pastel and often puke-worthy wedding world."  Rock on, sista. If I only I could convince Eric Clapton to ditch the nanny-wife, I'd be all over this blog.

BridePOP was founded by two childhood friends who decided to work together after college to follow their passions. Ryan tells me the two have a bunch of uber-secret projects in the works that will further shake up the once-staid world of weddings.  The BridePOP crew is based in the Washington, DC area but is virtually everywhere:

In its continued quest to build community, BridePOP is always looking to add to the team http://bridepop.com/contribute/

Guru's note:  If you got the engagement ring pictured above -- the hand engraved platinum and diamond engagement ring from Kirk Kara's Carmella collection -- you'd best hope your manicurist can keep up with all that sparkle. More dazzlers at preciousplatinum.  (They're so elegant, they almost made me want to get married again. )
