What happens when a diverse group of women gather in a room for two days without an agenda to explore everything under the sun that relates to science, technology, engineering, and math? Powerful and passionate moments of learning, sharing, listening, brainstorming, witnessing, networking, dreaming, troubleshooting, and community building emerge. They weave together the rich tapestry of what occurred during the first She's Geeky DC unconference held on November 13 and 14 at the National Council of La Raza in Washington, D.C.

The event was organized by Amy SengerAndrea Baker, Allyson Kapin, Shireen Mitchell, and Kety Esquivel.  Over 70 women and girls attended the two-day unconference.  Click here to watch episodes of Ananda Leeke TV featuring interviews with She's Geeky DC participants including:

She's Geeky is the "brain daughter" of Kaliya Hamlin (a/k/a as Identity Woman), an expert and community leader in the field of user-centric identity, Fellow of the Information Card Foundation, and one of the few members of the Open Web Foundation.  Fast Company Magazine recently named Hamlin as one of the most influential women in tech.  In 2007, Hamlin and a group of women working in the high-tech sector in the San Francisco Bay Area identified the need for She's Geeky.  They recognized the importance and power of creating a haven where women who self-identify as geeky could interact in person to offer support, education, and opportunities to share experiences.  The first She’s Geeky conference was held at the  Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California in October 2007.  Microsoft Corporate offices in New York City hosted the second conference in December 2008. The third conference returned to the Computer History Museum in January 2009. For more information about She's Geeky conferences, visit http://shesgeeky.org/sg.
