Facebook search helps mother find her kidnapped children.

Facebook logoWhen Faustino Utrera was arrested for kidnapping his children, custody reverted to their mother who hadn't seen them in about 15 years. The last time she saw her son and daughter, they were two and three, respectively.

She was on Facebook and decided to search for them, and to her surprise she found her daughter, whom the mother "friended" and begin communicating with. Through their interactions on Facebook, the mother found out her children were in Central Florida, and the San Bernardino authorities investigated and found the father and children.

The children are now in protective custody in Florida until they can be reunited with their mother in California.

This is interesting for a couple of reasons. One, the mother was able to find her children after being separated for 15 years using social media. This is a very interesting spin on the possible use of social media.

But, two, what do the children feel about this? They have lived with their father for the past 15 years. Whether good or bad, they have to be attached some kind of way to him. Now, after a decade and a half they are snatched away from him.

Hm... Sounds like a Pyrrhic Victory.
