The anticipated beta release for Twitter lists has come upon us. A major roll-out of this latest feature was released on October 30, 2009. Now that we've all had a chance to play around with this newest toy on Twitter, the question remaining is, what is their purpose?
Many Twitter aficianados have following lists that can be pretty unmanageable. In reality, could any of us keep up with eight hundred or more conversations all going on at the same time? With this in mind, Twitter lists can help alleviate the babble from a loud roar to a light rumble.
Following a lot of people who are of one religious faith or another? Create a "religion" list. Tracking a large number of customers in addition to other non-related accounts on Twitter? Create a "customer" list. Simply put, the best use of a Twitter list is to keep track of things we deem important or subject-worthy.
Creating a Twitter list is a very easy process. Simply log into your Twitter account, click on "New List" located on the right-hand side of the page, type in the name of your list and select whether you wish the list to be public or private. Once the new list is created, it is suggested that you proceed to your list of people you are following and add them in this manner.
A few things that could be added to this new feature are a simpler way to mass add users to a single list and the ability to cross-add users to several lists. All in all, Twitter lists are a much needed and welcome addition to the social media microblogging site.
