Have you tried to use social media to market your business but yet, you aren't getting the results you thought you would have, you expected to get, or wanted?
Here are 10 reasons why you aren't getting the results from your social media marketing:
1. You aren't focused on building an email-marketing list via social media. 95% of all money made online is made via email, so if you don't have a list and are not focused on building that list via your social media efforts.
2. You haven't been using social media for long enough. Using it for only a month or two will not work. You must view it as a long-term strategy and commit to it.
3. You are trying to use only social media for all your marketing. An effective marketing campaign consists of a variety of methods rather than focusing only one method.
4. You are focusing only on one site. An effective social media marketing campaign must include between two and four sites.
5. You are following the opposite strategy mentioned in number 4. You are trying to use more than four social media sites.Having a profile on more sites is fine but unless you are in the business of selling social media products or software, you cannot reasonably work more than four sites at once.
6. You are not interacting enough with your contacts. It is crucial to find ways to take relationships you start online off-line and use the phone, email, Skype, meetings and other strategies and occasions to meet and develop deeper relationships.
7. Your contacts do not see you as offering enough value. You must offer an insane amount of value and those you interact with must view you as the kind of leader they want to do business with.
8. You are not using social media with enough consistency. On some sites especially Twitter you must Tweet at least once per day or you will not get out of it what you are expecting. People on Twitter expect you to stay active and to contribute daily or they will lose interest and respect for you.
9. You are trying too hard to sell people. Spamming and trying too hard to get attention is a big no.
10. Your expectations are too high. Social Media is not the golden ticket to millions over night. You need to set reasonable goals for your social media marketing.

Thanks for this post - there isn't enough notice taken of this type of advice. It seems that the anonymity of sitting at a keyboard makes people think that blasting out a sales message, or a link to a site promising 1000s of followers in 10 minutes is somehow OK - it doesn't work in face to face relationships and it doesn't work on SM either.
If you chose to use SM for marketing you have to have a clear idea of what you want the tool to do for you, but more important you must be focused on your niche and how to give value to them which means giving value, real value, without an expectation that you will immediately get something back. To do that means it is about THEM, not about YOU.
