This morning I woke up to find I had received an email stating that I was listed as one of Rhode Island top 50 tweeters. Not breaking news, I know. But then I wondered based on what. After browsing the list I realized it was based on followers. Not engaging others or content.
The last article I wrote for Examiner was entitled, ENGAGE to be engaging. Based on my research from the GoLocal Prov article, my goal was to uncover who were the top 10 of that top 50 list based on tweets, content & engaging an audience; and not just from the amount of followers one has.
*note Providence_Jobs usually does not engage- they only post jobs- important in RI at this time)
These were the results as of June 21, 2010

- Chrissyisms (over 37,404 tweets)
- Hot106 (over 17,373 tweets)
- Kevin_DeSoto (over 16,929 tweets)
- Providence_Jobs (over 15,098 tweets)
- SavorTheThyme (over 13,841 tweets)
- DJTek (over 12, 636 tweets)
- SixUntilMe (over 11,771 tweets)
- AudreyMcClellan (over 11,445 tweets)
- ABarcelos (over 10,788 tweets)
Media, marketing, engaging, networking and public relations takes effort. While I was surprised that my rank in Rhode Island was higher than expected; I can say from experience that it takes a lot of work to be engaging in this social media world. Just ask anyone listed above.
While it is nice to have stats & lists and top this and top that articles- at the end of the day it is about people.
These are the movers and shakers who have walked the walk and not just talked the talk when it comes to engaging. I would want them on my team- CONGRATS everyone.

Great piece, Kevin. ...and I agree, it's all about engaging, not posting links. However, we can all fall into that trap because self promotion is what it's all about on the web or you'll get buried. I'm a huge Facebook convert because it has a better pace and a more personal feel...but Twitter was my first love, so I'll still give it a hug every day.
