Laid Off Camp Phoenix is an extension of a national effort to help people find work whether that is full-time work, freelance work, volunteer work, or whatever’s next for them. Like other Laid Off Camp events, is a locally-based, community-supported effort to offer resources and reassurance to job seekers.
Saturday, April 3rd was the latest event bringing together a community of displaced workers with an opportunity to network, attend free seminars, and hone their job hunting skills. The event took place at the Chandler Senior Center and a sold-out audience attended.
Laid-off camps have taken place all across the country, from Miami to Chicago to Las Vegas. At laid off camps, those who are unemployed can get together to share ideas and learn from each other. Unlike other events, it is not a job fair or recruiting event, it is focused on skills development and networking.
At this weekend’s event there was an abundance of presenters with important messages to share. Below is just a sample of the many topics covered at the event:
Charlene Kingston from SocialMediaDIYWorkshop.com will share simple ways to freshen your online image
Networking expert Gelie Akhenblit, founder of NetworkingPhoenix.com, will discuss how to build and nourish an effective network
Matt Clower of ClowerPower Web Design helps attendees learn how to break out of their shell and become more effective networkers
LaidOffCamp veterans will share helpful guidance on how to make the most of the information available at LaidOffCamp, and how it helped with their own job search
One of the takeaways from the event is to always be making new contacts. From the people you encounter at the event, to your everyday interactions, always look for new opportunities to connect and grow.
