Superbowl ads are always a popular part of the big game each year and this year, there is a twist. There has been much controversy surrounding a pro-life commercial featuring Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Tim Tebow during the Super Bowl. Sponsored by Focus on the Family, the commercial involves Tebow's mother's account of how she ignored a doctor's advice to abort her fifth child, Tim Tebow.
The Facebook group, "Support Tebow's Super Bowl Ad", is growing in numbers on the social networking site. As of Saturday morning, the group had over 70,000 fans.
The Facebook group was created to demonstrate wide support for what they say is a responsible decision made by CBS to air the ad and for the right of the Tebow family to present their story.
A liberal Christian denomination, the United Church of Christ (UCC) claims that CBS is showing favoritism to one side of the abortion debate.
Not only do we have The Colts vs The Saints competing for the title of Superbowl XLIV, now there is controversy surrounding commercials. There was a time when commercials were fun and entertaining when it came to the Superbowl.
So, is this a hit or a miss for CBS?
***please keep all comments civil. This is not an "opinion" piece..it's just put up to see how people feel about the commercial. Comments that are vulgar or nasty in any way will be removed. Thanks!

The group probably consists of a bunch of brainless girls who think he's hot. And probably a few religious nutbags here and there. The ad doesn't belong on television, especially not during the superbowl.
Agree with Chris.
And "Tebow Crying" has almost over 222,000 fans... so really, what is 70K? And that's just one of the groups that is anti Tim Tebow.
wow, do you people really hate him that much? he's a good guy and stands up for the right things. If you don't like the commercial change the channel. thats what I do the countless times I see sex displayed on TV like its candy for little kids to see. Of all the things you guys are gonna complain about, this shouldn't be one. It SUPPORTS giving life to someone. and yes, it has the potential to be someone, its a life.
I've seen Planned Parenthood funded ads during football games, as well condom ads. It's about time the other side gets a chance to speak.
Let's get it on ! CBS is only looking at their bottom line. If there is more competition and people watching for the commercials---What a great sales tool! HAY ! CBS-- both sides money is green. GO for it !
Wow, look at the fear the pro-abortion crowd has of the Tebows. That is telling.
There are other choices! AGAINST ALL ODDS...to choose life! oh, yes this ad belongs in tv.
And Viagra ads, condom ads and Planned Parenthood ads do? You lefites aren't just rabidly nasty, hateful phonies, you'd "choose" to censor anybody who doesn't agree with you!
i'm so tired of censorship! it's just a commercial. everyone has a right to voice their opinion: it's called freedom of speech. make your own commercial if you don't like it. or change the channel.

Why do people feel like they have to tell me what to do with my life and my body? I had an abortion when I found myself pregnant very soon after my daughter was born. I have to hear how people think I'm some kind of monster while I watch the Super Bowl? And thanks, so-called Social Media Examiner for using your column as a pro-life platform. Now you'll round up some more nosy people to get in my face.
Can we keep football out of my uterus, please?
Tara, we are not telling you what to do. You are free to do what you want. Most Abortions are legal. We are all bound by laws that were introduced and passed to support our values as a country. Somehow, back in the Roe Vs Wade days, our culture decided it was time to protect the value of womens choice to allow the murder of a baby. Interesting how the terminology creatively enabled folks to tolerate murder, (choice - fetus - rights of women) Now... as a culture, the majority think this law needs to be overturned and now.. we should support the life of the unborn. Thank God we can see some balance of values in our society.. I too am tired of having very little on TV that isn't full of sexual innuendo, viagra, alcohol, pre-marital sex, homosexual sitcoms. I am tired of watching the battle of redefining the definition of marriage. I pray my grandkids, 3,6 will live in a Country that returns to the Judeo-Christian values that our founders shared.
@Tara---you're off the mark. I did not write in this column that I was pro choice or not....so please do not write that this column is a pro-life platform. Far from it...I was throwing the topic up for discussion. Why don't you read what I wrote before you jump. I did write that Super Bowl commercials used to be fun.....and that's about the only opinion I gave. Please don't come here and make statements that aren't true...because my opinions aren't given in the piece. AT all.
I'm looking forward to seeing the commercial.
For those who say such an ad doesn't belong
on television - what standards are you using
to come to that conclusion? Sounds like someone
afraid of the first amendment. Each time someone
says another person should not be allowed to say
something there's the 1st amendment staring them down.
!!Yay Constitution!!
Thank God for these athletes who will actually stand up for a positive cause instead of being in the limelight for drugs, alcohol or gun related charges !!!
Jesse: can we keep your uterus out of Pam Tebow's uterus, please?
Tara: Interesting to hear about how you had that abortion after you "found (your)self pregant." Now I guess you know what you were up to during that mysterious period of time when you went missing.
Spell check: pregnant.
As long as people are bashing CBS for alledly taking sides on a political issue (when actually it seems they're just allowing an ad that affirms something positive about life; if that has an obvious political implication, oh well . . .), we should note that the web's dominant seach engine, Google, explicitly prohibits sponsored links for one particular side of the same-sex marriage issue. As a matter of policy, Google only permits ads that favor SSM.
In 2004, Google briefly ran an ad link to an essay called Same-Sex Marriage: Challenges and Responses by Greg Koukl of the conservative Stand to Reason organization. However, Google then pulled the ad, based on its absurd characterization of the (remarkably civil) STR site as a hate website. In light of the current movement to criminalize hate (or anything so-called liberals can tar as such), this bit of viewpoint exclusion is a lot creepier than CBS running a spot with Pam Tebow saying shes glad she didnt abort her kid.
What i don't understand is how can NOW protest this, yet stay silent on the disrespect of young women in beer commercials?

There are more of us supporting you than you may know! It seems anything to denounce the value of life in America. Scary huh? Sounds a lot like past history. I think people have no Idea what we are in for. Keep sharing your beliefs brother. It could save us all.
tara sounds convicted about her decisions she made concerning her baby who was killed. I guess Americans who do these things have no faith in their future, or they're just self centered to want to care for another child, hey there's women out there who are deeply grieved they cannot have children. The other thought is the idea that in ancient times women hiked their babies to the top of a fire pit in certain cultures and sacrificed their unborn babies , so are we really any different.. I can tell you that by my own testimony, I have had 2 abortions and when I have been truly honest with myself, it was a selfish decision without the thought of how it would affect me now. I lost something very precious and you know you did too. So maybe quit badgering the ones who are thinking with a mind and a heart. You don't realize that they are trying to open your eyes and heart as well.
When we intelligently look at past history, we see movements that repackage themselves to be bought and sold by the next generation. In these historical trends a common thread has woven itself quietly reasonably into our culture and that is the "Devaluation of Human Life", It began with the sacrificing of babies to God's like Moleck and various others. We later see the genocide of the Jewish people in Hitlers time. What about Joseph Stalin? You think all these rulers and God's didn't find a means or logical way to support their cause for killing. So what are we doing, what is our logical reasoning, I don't have the money, too many kids are without parents, too many teens are having kids, I was raped. What is your reason that makes you feel better? So let's keep in mind to face the truth within our selves, why are we justifying killing? Let's ask ourselves, what direction is our nation going in? If this is justifiable now, what will be acceptable later??
The Tebow's are creepy religious nuts who are angling to make money off the story. Just another way for Christian leaders to fleece the flock.
Yet deception is par for the course from the Christian right..
The ad won't change anybody's mind. The fact that abortion was and is illegal in the Philippines means that Pam Tebow has been stretching the truth and being deceptive telling the story about her choice.
The irony is that Christian fascists like the Tebows and focus on the family want to deny women the choice Tebow claims she had. Hypocrisy and Christians just go together.
If they bought advertising time during the superbowl, then CBS is NOT showing favoritism to the pro-life side. IF they DON'T air it, they are showing favoritism to the pro-abortion side. That line of thinking would eliminate advertising all together . . . "Sorry, Ford, GM didn't buy air time, so we cannot run the ad you paid for. It just shows favoritism." Free speech means that even non-liberal people can speak too.
Choose life! Choose the environment! Choose the eagle! Choose the rights of the animals! Live and let live! get real, get with the program, just because something is legal does it make it right? Slavery, Nazi, Mao, all legal did it make it right? You DECIDE, you CHOOSE, you REAP benefits for your children. That's the way it works! Mother Teresa said "the fruit of abortion is nuclear war", interesting.... abortion is being sold wholesale by USA here and soon abroad thru international programs. Lets stop killing and live in peace for all. Sorry mom, I was never your RIGHT! God always forgives, but first ask for pardon. If you are an atheist ask your unborn child to forgive you! S/he is alive in spirit and you may find something much bigger than you... and life always has more to give.....
CBS is allowed to run any ad they wish. I won't like the ad, believe in its message or particularly care. But they should allow for other politically charged ads during the superbowl, like one from NORMAL about nationally legalizing pot, or something worthwhile that would help the American populace, rather than force religious views down their throats.
CHOICE begins when a woman decides to have sex, NOT after she is pregnant with a human life. DUH
Killing any living human is not a choice we should ever make.
No nasty or vulgar comments? How about calling the Tebow's fascists? If this is supposed to be civil discourse, I want to know what uncivil discourse looks like. If this were "just another ad" people would be likely to get up in arms about it. Fact of the matter is, it touched a nerve. Those who are sensitive about it should ask themselves some deep questions. Otherwise, like a number of ads which could be offensive to non-drivers, etc., it's just another silly ad.
