Most Twitter users just joined this year.
In fact, 72.5% of them joined in 2009, according to a study by Sysomos, which measures social media.
Other incredibly interesting stats from the study:
- 21% of Twitter users have never posted a Tweet;
- 5% of Twitter users account for 75% of all activity (another study from Harvard Business School found that the top 10% of Twitter users account for 90% of all tweeting);
- 65% of Twitter users are under the age of 25 (80% are under the age of 30);
- most Twitter activity happens from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Tuesday is the most popular day to tweet;
- the U.S. makes up for 62% of the tweeting population. (Those American narcissists, I tell you!)
Sysomos analyzed more than 11.5 million Twitter accounts.
