The Consumer Electronics show 2010 starts in Las Vegas on January 7 and despite the fact that attendance is down about 20% from 2008, people are still talking about what is rumored to be on display at the show. If you aren't going, you can still follow the hype on all the latest gadgets by following CES on Twitter. Many are using the hashtag #CES if you want to see what others are tweeting about  when the show starts on Thursday.

Many are anticipating the Google phone to be unveiled at a press conference scheduled for January 5 and hope to catch a glimpse of it at the CES if rumor becomes truth. Talk of tablets galore seems to be a hot topic although it's hard to imagine having one more piece of tech gear to use with all of the smartphones, netbooks and laptops in our homes and offices.

What else is hot for the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show? The Smart TV is getting some press and it's not surprising that people will be interested in combining their television viewing with their internet addiction. Smart TVs will apparently allow users to download Netflix films, stream music, check e-mail and communicate with other electronic devices in the home. A relaxing night watching television doesn't seem possible once we combine the internet with our television. Skip the commercials and check your email? It's on the way.

E-book readers are gaining in popularity although this book fan still can't give up the paper version. However, many are crazy about the E-Book readers so for 2010, the CES has 23 exhibitors hoping to compete with Amazon's Kindle.

Tablets are the new rage this year and they may just out-do the netbook. Bigger than a smartphone but unlike carrying a flat screen TV around, tablets are going to the be the "mid-sized" communication tool for 2010. It will be interesting to see how these pan out. There is no keyboard to contend with on a tablet -- they will be entirely based on the touch screen.

Of course, Apple is getting most of the hype when it comes to a tablet but, once again, will do their own thing outside of the CES, but there are others out there ready to show off their versions. Dell is said to be among the companies introducing an Android tablet. There is also rumor that Microsoft, Lenovo, and Asus may unveil their own tablet computers, quite possibly at the Consumer Electronics Show.

If you do attend to the Consumer Electronics Show and have an iPhone, there's an app for that. Surprised? Follow Me is the official iPhone/iPod Touch application for the 2010 International CES. Navigate the show floor like a pro with our interactive maps, search the exhibitor directory, or create your show schedule by choosing sessions you want to attend and speakers you want to hear.

In addition to all the talked about gadgets, the CES will feature touch-screen cameras, "connected" automobiles that offer in-car wireless internet and GPS add-ons for phones.

I'll be checking in to see what Andrew Weiner, the Internet and Technology Examiner, is writing about this week because he's heading out to Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show 2010. Who said that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas?
