NMC Members at 2nd Saturday Event
Social/Digital Media networking group New Media Cincinnati, founded by Daniel Johnson Jr., is undergoing an evolution in how monthly meetings known as 2nd Saturday Events are planned and managed. Johnson has opened up the process to the community to allow members to propose meeting topics and to organize and host 2nd Saturday events. Community members have always been welcome to share their thoughts during a planning call (listen in here) one to two weeks prior to the event, but the change will allow interested people to take on bigger roles within the group.
New Media Cincinnati began in October of 2007 and two and a half years later has shown steady growth. Monthly events, which currently are free of charge, repeatedly "sell-out' with an average group numbering around 60 to 65 people. Meetings are at The Pub at Rookwood Mews from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. every 2nd Saturday of the month. New Media Cincinnati brings together folks currently working in the social media arena, social media enthusiasts and those who want to learn more about social/digital applications and practices.
NMC has made a recent move toward less open networking and more structure with an agenda, a topic, speakers and local business sponsors. The March 2nd Saturday Event included a Panel Discussion on Internet Privacy Issues.
The April event is billed as "Questions From a Hat, a very popular format used by NMC in the past and will be hosted by NMC member Daniel Lewis of D.Joseph Design. Opportunity to submit a question for the "hat" will be available at the start of the event. Questions will be posed to the group at-large and qualified individuals from the audience will share their thoughts on each.
Interested in checking out the group? Make sure you register for the next 2nd Saturday Event on 4/10/10 HERE. The event will be recorded and Live Streamed and can be followed on Twitter with the hashtag: #NMC. Participants at the meeting are encouraged to Tweet, update, Twitpic, video- tape and share all meeting details as they occur under a creative commons license.

Thanks for mentioning the group over here, Michelle. It's been very encouraging to see the group take more responsibility.
Not to be a stickler for accuracy, but wasn't Daniel Johnson Jr actually a CO-founder with Andy Osier? Maybe I misunderstood.
I think, too, the stream is supposed to be on NMC's website. Not sure if he's set that up yet, or will be by the meeting Saturday, but that came out of that same discussion.
Thanks for the post.
The idea was primarily Daniel Johnson Jr.'s, but Andy was involved in those early days.
Yes, we'll have a live page online by Saturday.
Would Jennifer G. be willing to expand on her comments?
Thanks all for commenting. It will be interesting to see just how New Media Cincinnati evolves. There are many new networking entrants in the city, some focused on social and digital media, that are giving folks more choices for where to spend their networking/relationship-building hours.
