Using the # tag in your tweet is somewhat like the subject line at the top of an e-mail. By using the hashtag (#) you are denoting what subject you're tweeting about.
For example: If I were to post a tweet about how I am grateful it's Friday, I would write my tweet and add #tgif (thank God it's Friday) at the end of my post.
Using hashtags also helps you, and other Twitter users, search for a specific topic. By typing in a particular hashtag into the Twitter search bar, you will open up all discussions about your particular hashtag.
