An undercover investigation of a Vermont veal slaughterhouse revealed disgusting and disturbing abuses of the animals. The slaughterhouse closed with alleged abuse allegations.
The Associated Press uncovered US Department of Agriculture records which revealed that Bushway Packing Inc. of Grand Isle, VT was inspected and temporarily closed by the inspector in May, June and July of this year.
The Humane Society of the United States released the following VERY graphic footage of the slaughterhouse. It shows days old male calves being kicked, shocked with electric prods, dragged and cut while conscious.
According to the AP, Michael Markarian, the Humane Society's chief operating officer, says two calves appeared to be skinned alive.
Bushway Packing has been certified organic. Organic certification currently does not cover many aspects of animal welfare, including packing and slaughter.

I cannot believe how uncaring these "human" beings are. It's bad enough these poor animals live a very short life...why does it have to be totally in pain and mistreated? These people working in the slaughterhouse ought to be "shocked" and prodded and beaten. They should go to jail for cruelty...they are just plain cruel...not to mention the comments they make while abusing these animals. The poor things...this MUST stop!!!!! NOW!!!!
I agree with you SP.These people should be taken out and shot. They have no regard for human life. The federal inspector should face federal charges of some kind.I hear people saying bad things about the humane society but now you are seeing what they see.You are right, this MUST stop!!!!! NOW!!!!!
Well, it wouldn't be so bad if these indeed were poor "things". But like all "food" animals, indeed like all animals just like us, they have sentience. There's a wonderful way to withdraw from this kind of unnecessary, vulgar and violent treatment to animals... By going vegan. It's a healthy choice - better for the planet and certainly better for the animals.

Well it is a shame about those little cows, but if God didn't want us to eat them he wouldn't have made them out of meat.
Why don't you eat yourself.
Hey FosterFarmer, Human animals are meat too. My God believes it is more righteous to eat deserving human animals than to eat any non human animals...just saying, of course.
Dear Beef Industry,
I love beef! I love steaks, hamburgers, roastbeef sandwiches, hot dogs, luncheon meats and yes even the occasional veal cutlet! My husband and large family also love beef products!
However, we will never touch, eat, nor LOOK at another beef product for the rest of our existing lives! We are hearty eaters & yes we may suffer the occasional craving however what has been etched on my mind & heart recently will forever repulse those cravings away with little effort.
I have the power to do something about this cruelty & that power is my choice, & my family's choice, to stop eating all forms of beef. That is exactly what this 45 yr old gal & family is doing in response to the recent exposure video watched in it's entirety. I applaud the people involved in exposing this Grand Isle plant & fear there are many more plants who are just as brutal, if not more, yet are still UNexposed.
I have hunted my fair share of deer, fowl, and fish. I love meat, only no
only now I love it in a different form. Alive and well. I cannot stomach what I've just seen. We shall boycott ALL beef companies, ALL slaughterhouses all restaurants who sell beef products by taking away our business. We are hefty eaters who up until today, have definitely supported the beef industry!
Beef industry, you'd best be prepared for boycotts all over the U.S., because not only will I stop eating beef, I will spend every waking hour thinking up new ways to bring others to the choice we've made this day. The choice of never eating meat again for as long as breathing is in fashion! I will spend every waking hour using my voice, my influence on friends, family, and even strangers I meet each day, to stop the consumption of beef! I will spend every waking hour blogging against all you stand for! I feel so free not needing you anymore!
Goodbye beef, it was great while it lasted but you've turned rotten to us!

I not only sent this to the Vermont Beef Producers Association Directors, but also to Texas Beef Producers Association and to all the Grocery stores in my area. I encourage you to do something about this should this affect you the way it has affected us in our home tonite.
If you watch the video in it's entirety from the Humane Society site, you will find that there is one inspector in on the under-cover operation. KUDOS to the person who was hired to clean up floors at that Grand Isle plant as their disguise while sneaking that hidden camera into this heinous situation. If you do watch the video in it's entirety be prepared to cry very hard, both genders. My husband and I are still agonizing.
Sorry you are all so offended. Killing things is not pretty, at all. In order to do that kind of work you have to overcome some sensibilities.
The simple solution is to buy local from responsible farmers who ensure their livestock is slaughtered correctly. Suck it up and pay the higher cost for the quality of well raised meat or keep eating barcode crap so the dirtbags you just watched can keep their jobs.
Its increddbile how such malicous, reckless (bleep) live in this world. Many people deserve death because they don't understand the values of live. They just become sadists, poorly educated, bad morals and so forth. If I were god I punish all bad. Murdering any animal who feels pain should be homicide and deserve life sentence or death!
Holy shiz, man. I think I'm gonna cry. ;~;

All those inhumane slaughterhouses across our so-called developed and civilized western nations should be shut down or its products boycotted by all enlightened consumers for deliberately and sadistically torturing helpless animals when they could be treated with respect and dispatched painlessly. This is purely "CRIME AGAINST ANIMALTY" if I may say, and should be punished in courts with extreme severity! Shame on those ruthless barbarians!
