The plight of the wildlife from the after effects of the Deepwater Horizon oils rig explosion and the BP oil spill is a heartbreaking situation. While experts work heroically to save the oil covered birds and wildlife, BP is trying to block reporters from taking pictures of the animals, according to news reports on CNN on June 10, 2010.

Oil drenched birds, including brown pelicans, are being brought to the Fort Jackson Oiled Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Buras, Louisiana. BP is reportedly paying for the cleanup of the wildfife, but they are blocking reporters from taking pictures of the bird rescue operation.

Oil drenched birds are being brought in by the hundreds, taxing volunteers that clean the birds with Dawn dish washing soap. Making the bird rescue even more challenging is the fact that the birds do not understand that people want to help them and are difficult to catch.

The center currently has a capacity for 500 birds. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service spokesman Jon Myatt is working to double that capacity, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

British Petroleum, the company responsible for the the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, is paying for the center , but is no longer allowing reporters into the center to take pictures of the birds.

Perhaps people from other countries do not understand the ownership that Americans feel for their shores and the outrage that people feel about the social injustice to the wildlife in the Gulf of Mexico.

Perhaps people from the US do not understand that that BP (not "British Petroleum") is 39% owned by US investors; or that the rig that exploded was owned and operated by a US company named "Transocean"; or that the blowout preventer was designed and installed by a US company named "Halliburton".
